Comment: Walked in for dinner with my friend and her two children. We waited at least 7-10 minutes for an host to greet to us. When the host returned they spoke to and offered the person that came in after us table service. My friend mentioned aloud that we were also waiting to be seated. The energy was off and didn’t make us feel welcomed not enthusiastic to dine in. A few minutes later another staff member approached us to offer us the table next to the front door which wasn’t the best option for us with two young children so we left.

Prices are pretty good for what you get.The gyoza was really great and they have a jalapeno ponzu sauce (one of our friends requested it so Im not sure what it would come with) that is delicious for flavor and a little zip.One of my tests for new Asian or fusion restaurants, after hearing a famous Japanese chef talk about it and why its so important to do it well, is tempura. Just has the right crunch, not too much batter/breading and the proper temp, and lets the battered ingredient shine through along with a good dipping sauce. These guys have this down, we got the veggie tempura appetizer and it was out of this world.I get it, service is tough because of short staffing and more. Were patient. But theres were a couple things that I dont understand. We all ordered cocktails. They were great. So much so that a couple of folks at our table ordered another. But the drinks that came were not the same drinks. Okay, theyre busy, it happens. And those different drinks were good too, so thats fine, we rolled with it. But then the waiter forgot my wifes wine and half of our order. By that time we just ate what we had because the additional stuff was stuff we wanted to try and would have taken it for lunch the next day. Pretty significant misses since we werent in a hurry and didnt press like that.Well be back because the food is that good. Im hoping the service issues were a one off.

The Godzila and the Volvano are two of my favorites, with the spicy shrimp and tuna coming in a close third. The location on the Grand business district give great outdoor dining in the spring, summer, and fall. People watching is as good as the meal. If you get the hankering for sushi and dont know where in the city to go, go give the sushi chefs at Cafe Mochi a visit. You wont be disappointed

The waiter brought me out a double shot of Tito’s VODKA in addition to the drink I ordered that also included VODKA. No rum at all!! My $7.50 drink turned into a $16 drink with the additional charge of the double shot that I did not ask for! My drink cost more than my meal! The waiter also brought me out a soda that I did not ask for. I truly believe that he was not listening to my order at all. He just put in what ever the hell order he wanted to put in. When I brought the errors to his attention there was no attempt to take accountability for his wrongdoing. Absolutely ridiculous. Everyone isn’t trying to get over! I wasn’t looking to not pay for my order, but to pay for what I ordered!!!

Comment: Feel like eating out of an aquarium? Look no further! Not only will you get the scummiest sushi, but the service matches! Less than one minute of interaction cost a 20 tip because they “reserve the right” (which it isn’t) to charge for a table of 5 even when 2 of the kids with you don’t order anything and you don’t get any drink refills AND bus your own table. It’s a lesson learned I’m just dreading the almost certainly impending vomit that’s already making my stomach turn.

To give some background, by the time the food came out, we had only 15mins to eat and pay before moving onto the next stop for my bachelorette party. We ended up paying for $70 worth of food that we did not order or even receive. We got charged for every little mark we made on the menu, crossing off what we didnt want, eraser marks, and indentations from the pervious page. Whoever put our order in, needs their eyes checked, or at least ask about it. And when we tried to dispute the problem, we were told that it was our fault for not knowing how the ordering worked. Even if there was no quantity next to the sushi, we got it. We honestly thought we got someone elses order along with ours. So just be prepared to get charged for things you didnt want.

Its my go-to if I want to sit inside a restaurant and eat sushi.The other stuff is good too, but I honestly dont know why youd mess with anything but the sushi.I think at this point Ive had every roll on their menu. I like to get a few traditional rolls, and then treat myself to one of the specialty rolls. The volcano and fuji rolls are my favorite specialty rolls, but really you cant go wrong with anything.This place has been so good for a very long time, and they show no signs of slowing down. They seem to have the same people working there since the dawn of time, and I am sure thats why they are so consistently good.

As a lifelong resident, I’ve been to nearly every sushi restaurant in Saint Louis; Cafe Mochi is the superior establishment. I might go as far to say it is my favorite restaurant in Saint Louis. The quality of the fish and the expertly crafted rolls are what keep me coming back. There’s just something about these sushi rolls that’s different from everywhere else, and I can’t place what it is. They’re so rich, fresh, and flavorful. The staff is very agreeable as well—haven’t experienced any issues personally. Their non-sushi menu is excellent as well. I love the udon noodle dish. I recommend this place to everyone I can, and I hope this review is helpful. 5 out of 5 stars for me.

I like that they have an indoor and outdoor space, but we chose to sit inside because...St. Louis summer. The atmosphere inside was nice and had a great vibe. The host was funny and friendly. Our server was also friendly and had the perfect balance of making sure we had what we needed but not always there asking questions. We had the hardest time deciding what to order because it all looked good. We ended up ordering five different types of sushi and it was all delicious with enough left over to have for lunch the next day. Weve decided not to order delivery from Cafe Mochi. Were going to there instead!

Comment: The food here is delicious and the service is great. They got my order wrong but quickly resolved it. The drink was a little pricey since it was really weak. My only other complaint is it seems the sashimi is the same cut they use on the nigiri. I worked at a sushi and hibachi restaurant for 7 years and the sashimi should have been about double the thickness than the sashimi I received. Everything still tasted amazing. The environment is odd. They had my friend and I seated in a room off to the side. No one else was in there. It was nice though because it wasnt loud in the dining area nor too quiet. In the future Id probably get carry out. Still, I highly recommend eating here. Try it yourself!

We ordered in for a birthday, and was very disappointed to find that the specifics we discussed over the phone were not included in our order. When I brought it to their attention, I was asked if I could just wipe it off instead being offered a discount, or for it to be remade. Four rolls for $58 were not made correctly, and after having to ask for a discount we were given $10 off our food. We spent too much money to not be accommodated better. I got the Soft Shell Crab, Chicken Tempura, and a noodle dish. The crab was not fresh, flattened, and fried so much that you couldn’t really taste the meat. We were taken to a table upstairs as the downstairs area was closed off. The ambiance of this establishment was very intimate and cozy. There was some nice art throughout on the walls. The menu had lots to choose from and I couldnt decide what I wanted. We definitely sampled each others food as well. It didnt take long for our food to come once we did get our order in. The portions were good sizes and filling.You do have to wear your mask until seated inside the restaurant. Theres some outside seating as well. But we sat inside. The establishment is wheelchair accessible for the accessing the first floor even though it was closed off, but Im unsure if they had elevator to get you to the second floor. The outside seating maybe best. Parking is usually limited coming to any place on South Grand because the restaurants are so popular. But once those plates were left at the table they should not have been given to other guests.) We had an appetizer and four sushi rolls, and we were disappointed with everything. All of the crab was immitation even though the menu didnt state that. The pink geisha drink was good, but I would compare it more to strawberry milk than a cocktail as there was hardly any alcohol in it, but for $7 I wasnt surprised.When it finally came time to pay our server took our check presenter with our card sticking out and set it on another table right in front of other guests while he took their order. It was completely unprofessional and made us very uncomfortable, as anyone could have grabbed it. If thats how carefree he is with our card while we can see it, what does he do when we cant see it?! Overall a horrible experience. We wouldnt reccomend taking the risk of trying this place out.

However they are not taking dine in, so we went to Cafe Mochi.Here was my experience.There was plenty of parking adjacent to the restaurant which was nice..The atmosphere was ehhh. The restaurant didnt seem clean upon entrance, kind of rundown looking, they did have outdoor seating which was nice, but inside was kind of blah.The service was awful, we had reservations for a party of 7, and they seated us fairly promptly, however we did have to go up a half flight of stairs which isnt an issue for most people but Im not sure they could have accommodated us if we had wheelchair bound member with us. The waitress seemed just bothered by our presence, Id tell you her name but she never gave it, at one point when I asked for extra napkins she legitimately roller her eyes. She did seem to be the only waitress for our section but that isnt an excuse for poor manners. I also had to ask for drink refills and another round of alcoholic beverages. We waited so long for service that all of our drinks needed refilled at the same time.Our appetizers came out at different times (weird) One of the meals (chicken fried rice) was not delivered. However the table next to us received a sole plate of fried rice at the same time as we got our other 2 dinners so Im sure that was meant for us. When we finally asked where the fried rice was (because our waitress was not communicating anything) they said the kitchen was backed up. After the 3rd time asking for it we just simply asked that they take it off our bill because everyone was done eating at the table.When I realized they messed up one of the sushi rolls the food runner walked away and said she would tell the kitchen, so we started eating the other sushi on the platter. Then she came back with a to go carton and said she needed to take the messed up sushi roll back with her. Then she looked at the platter trying to figure out the best way to do it and decided that just taking the entire platter (that we were eating off of) with her was the best option. She did return the platter sans roll, however that was just weird.We ordered 2 cocktails, pink geisha, which were delicious, but when we asked for another round of drinks she took up not only the kids fountain drinks but also our cups. She went to the back and brought us out the same cups with a refill of the cocktail. She refilled our cocktail drinks! In what universe does that happen?Drinks were served in a plastic cups, the kids softdrinks, but also our cocktails. Not what I expect when Im eating at a sit down restaurant. Not only that when we asked for silverware they provided 3 plastic forks an no knives so my grandmother and son were left trying to eat an entire chicken breast with just a fork. Interesting.The sushi however was delicious. We ordered a fried California roll, a Philly roll, a butterfly roll, a bagel roll, a rainbow roll, a Hawaiian roll, a lemon drop roll, and fried shrimp roll. They were well prepared and displayed, and they provided plenty of ginger and Wasabi. We were pleased with that aspect of the dinner.Needless to say I cannot wait for Blue Ocean to open dine in again for customers

His reply? Youre going to have to wait because I have to go get this tables order. So we did wait... and waited... and waited... (all the while it was still raining on us). He finally brought the check out and said that they were boxing the food up now. We waited... waited another 15 minutes before going inside. I found the host and told him that we were only paying for the things that we did get and nothing else. I told him not to bother with the rest of the order. When the host said that they HADNT EVEN STARTED MAKING OUR FOOD, our waiter and the lady with the attitude would not look at us, acknowledge us, or even walk by us. The service was absolute trash and what food we did get wasnt great either. Its hard to mess up edamame but the calamari vegetable appetizer was extremely disappointing. Do not waste your time here at all. --- We were there for a total of 1.5 hours just trying to get 6 sushi rolls. I want to make it known that after we left we drove to three different locations, unfortunately they were closed on Sundays, but settled on Herbies in Clayton and had our food and check in less than an hour. AGAIN, we went to THREE DIFFERENT PLACES BEFORE FINDING A SPOT, ORDERED FOOD, AND GOT OUR CHECK in less time than we spent sitting and waiting... and waiting.... and waiting... and waiting at Cafe Mochi. We waited about 15 minutes before finally getting the servers attention. He said he would be right back to get our drinks and about 5 minutes later showed up with waters. Another server stopped by at the same time and said is just water okay? We asked for soft drinks and they were brought. We place orders for appetizers, sushi and PHO. The appetizers arrived about 15 min later, we asked for soy sauce and never received any. Our PHo arrived and we asked for the sides that go in it. He looked at us like we were crazy and kept asking for more details. The second server said she understood and would be right back. Again no soy. My wife finally went in and got soy sauce as we prefer the taste with it. After the food was taken away, we were told the sushi would be out soon. It arrived but was not presented as it normally is and didnt have the same fresh flavors. It might have been the frustration from the rest of the meal but we ate a couple bites and took the rest home. I guess the good thing is taking it home was easy as all 3 roles were served in a to go container. Im sure we will be back but might be time to find another place.

They have socially distanced outdoor seating and the waiters are quite attentive. Last week I went to the physical store to place an order of Pho and they had told us it would be a 30 minute wait. We waited and when we returned they had not even placed the order yet. So today I decided to give them another chance by ordering them online. I have to say the food was just average. I personally love going to new Asian restaurants and this entrée was just average. I wish the lettuce had been chopped more fine and the cucumbers as well having these larger chunks takes away from the flavor. I have to say the meat was delicious. The noodles were sadly the biggest disappointment, The vermicelli was overcooked and it was a little too thick for the classic Bun dish.Usually Bun is very refreshing and light when you’re eating it. This dish was extremely heavy. I did order a side of crispy rolls they sadly were a little overly greasy which took away from the flavor.Overall it was fine but I would say I was not fully satisfied with the flavors overall.Delivery was extremely fast and I was very happy with how on time they were.

It was a little slow; I had to ask for things, but I had a nice seat on the patio, and I wasnt in a hurry to eat (if I were, that would have been a bad experience). There is no variety of soy sauce--only regular. The second time I went with my partner, and we sat inside. A roach almost crawled directly onto their shoulder as we sat in the booth. We had already eaten the sushi, which was decent compared to many places in St. Louis. We wont go back for sanitary reasons as well as continued slow service (in an almost empty restaurant).

They make excellent quality sushi at an affordable price. They have a happy hour from 430-6 pm that provides half off sushi rolls. I have taken family and friends to this restaurant countless times; every person were delighted with what they ordered. I have turned some of my best friends and family from hating sushi and not really giving it a chance to loving it just by trying their shrimp tempura. The appetizers here are great (especially the fried vegetable tempura). The entrees are also great; I have tried their rice options. They also have a imported beer and sake if you’re up for drinks. The staff here is phenomenal; they are all professional and very well mannered. I have talked with the family that owns this restaurant with how many times I’ve come to this establishment, and they are very kind people. The seating is bountiful; you can sit outside, bottom floor or upstairs. Easy bathroom on all floors. Food is very consistent. I have had a majority of the sushi in the St. Louis area. The price and quality of the sushi here beats competitors such as Sushi AI, Kampai sushi, Midtown, Koi, and Drunken Fish. Trust and give it a shot. This review has long been overdue.

During our lunch visit the tempura-fried vegetables werent cooked properly, there was still unfried batter and the onion was undercooked. The bathroom is dirty and has several flies on the walls, and there are open bags of rice right in front of the bathroom door, with trash being transported out the back door in the same hallway. Flickering lights in the booths. The place seems undersized and the staff, especially the chefs, are overworked. Waitstaff seemed more interested in baiting for tips than actually serving us. Comment: Café Mochi is a fantastic sushi restaurant that has always worked to satisfy the mobs of people that visit almost every day. The sushi is fantastic, and the service has always been good. The owner has been responsive to our suggestions and ideas and has worked hard to expand to meet the needs of the clientelle, which has always been extremely busy.Ive been a somewhat regular customer since they opened and have witnessed the transformation from a tiny little place (that was packed) to a much larger restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The character, service, and quality of sushi has always been an asset to the South Grand area.

Comment: This is my favorite place to get sushi in St Louis. The half-price happy hour specials are a great deal. My 4 year old daughter and I eat here 3-4 times a month on her request as it is her favorite place to eat as well. Depending on when you arrive you might wait a while for your food, but sometimes it can arrive very quickly.

Comment: I have enjoyed Cafe Mochi since I moved to the city 3 years ago. Im going to enjoy it again tonight. This place is a quality, local establishment on South Grand and should definitely be on your list of places to frequent.The service is exactly what I would expect at a restaurant that is always packed (because its awesome) and that does NOT serve fast food. When Im in a hurry I go to the Taco Bell, located conveniently up the street. When I want to take my time and enjoy sushi I go to CM. Everything is always fresh. The specialty rolls are killer (my favorites are the Butterfly and Spider). Everything else is just as amazing- better if you do catch it on happy hour, but a solid life choice either way. I havent tried very many of the Vietnamese offerings but, they have my confidence as well. Dont be put off by assholes with Google accounts dealing out their weird vigilante version of justice. If youre in the Tower Grove area check this place out.

Comment: If I could give 0 stars I would. I challenge anyone dining here to ask for the owner and assess for yourself how horrible his attitude is. For this reason I will never go back. I do not have any comment on the quality of the food since our experience here was completely ruined before we were served our order. We were told by the owner to leave when we politely refused to be reseated about 30 minutes into the experience. Not only that but were harassed and accused of lying because our waitress allowed us to combine tables for the rest of our expected party. I will never spend my money with a business that does not value its customers. Regardless of the food, the owners attitude left a bad taste in my mouth. We dined instead at Sushi Ai in Clayton. Their service was wonderful.
