Comment: I feel a little catfished by the reviews on here, and maybe we just happened to go on a very short staffed evening — that being said, the food was not good, the waitstaff was barely present and when we were being attended to, the process felt rushed and stressful. We waited a long time for service and still ended up paying a lot of money for a very overpriced meal that left us feeling deeply unsatisfied. Maybe we happened to not try to best items on the menu, but there was no help finding what the right items were. The atmosphere was not what reviews said it would be, nor was the quality of the food.

Comment: I’ve never had anything that wasn’t excellent here in last ten years. Lately I’ve been on Unagi bowl kick. Sahimi fish is always fresh, moist and rich. If you are looking for a simple fresh made to order incredible rolls, look no further. Plus they play great music. I approve their playlist(quite diverse- from jazz to Sublime). Compliments to the chefs and djs.

Comment: Food was excellent. I would go back again. My server was very good. But the atmosphere was a little bleak. Very empty restaurant. When I walked in I wasnt greeted and I didnt see any workers. Theres a nice little piece of paper with marker that says go ahead and seat yourself. I sat myself and saw a beautiful woman sitting at the bar. She looked like she was doing homework and playing on Her phone. After several minutes she turned around. And ask me if I was dining in or taking out. She ran to the back and got one of the other servers. And then hurried back to sit at the bar and get to her phone. She had her back to the entire restaurant. And she still had a table eating. So in between taking them referrals. She would take a load off at the bar. Clearly she had more important things than to provide service and be at work. Im a truck driver so Im used to dining alone and sitting on my phone. If you want good sushi, and you wanna go somewhere quiet. With not a whole lot of people. Then this is the place for you. Dancing crab Sushi roll was excellent. The tempera and fried calamari. Was awesome as well.

Comment: This little place has some of the best sushi I’ve had in years. The server we had said that they fly in every single day and it sure taste like it. Not only that they can tell that they get very high-quality fish. The service has been great. The only thing I wish they had was better chairs. The seats are quite uncomfortable. Comment: Upscale atmosphere without the usual premium price hike. It’s sushi so expect your wallet to be lighter when you leave but you won’t feel ripped off because both the food and presentation justify the cost.On the food side you’re going to have the chance to try fish that you’ve never had before. I’ve been trying unusual fish for 50+ years so it’s a rare thing for me to run into new to me fish. On this visit I got to try 2! I had nodoguro , a deep water sea perch and ishidai which is a beakfish. I’ve enjoyed sayori, a half beak many times and thought maybe we had a mislabeled fish which is pretty common but nope, not the same! Both were outstanding.I’m pretty picky about Japanese rice. It needs to be high quality and prepared skillfully. Most Denver joints fail pretty miserably on this point but HM nailed it. I had some with nigiri and more in a chirashi so I had a good sample to evaluate. It wasn’t perfect but it was in the neighborhood.I expect to be a regular even though it’s a bit of a hike for me.

Comment: You know this is a little bit better than average strip mall sushi place in Lakewood. If I was nearby Union avenue, up north of Alameda, and I wanted some sushi. This wouldnt be a bad place to go.But Im not giving it a Michelin star or anything. I wouldnt say theres anything wrong with it for what it is. Beer is cold. I didnt really have to wait on anything. Service was okay. I kind of like the atmosphere of my wife doesnt. Theyve got a lot to of stuff to eat thats not sushi. Anyway there you go.

Last time I went to pick up for take out, the woman in front said its sitting at the back bar. Really? You cant walk back there and bring it up to me? Comment: Ive been here twice now and the food/value is great. They lost a star for closing time though. They say open until 10 which is why I went here, arriving at 9:10. The hostess was smoking outside so I sat myself at the bar. Service was friendly and food came out quick but by 9:25 I was told its last call on food orders (I already had part of my order), and a couple coming in at 9:26 were told they were closed. There were 2 other parties still inside eating while I finished my meal. By 9:42 I had paid my check and was headed out the door but the staff had already turned off everything inside and I felt like I was a nuisance in their way to close up.In summary, good food but closes at 9:15 if were being honest.

Comment: Love me some sushi and Hana Matsuri had excellent reviews so lets give it a try.The service was a bit odd. The guy who greeted us at the door seemed distracted. You order sushi by checking a plastic covered menu with a dry erase pen - which is unusual and slightly gross as the plastic menus are frayed and not particularly clean.Our gyoza appetizer was cold on arrival and not very good, while the edamame and miso soup were both hot and tasty.We tried a number of rolls and all the sushi was good.The waitstaff seemed largely absent and the interior of the restaurant had the feel of something well designed that no one cares about anymore.This place could easily get five stars if they cleaned up (ehem, got rid of) the odd plastic dry erase menus, spent a few hours tidying up the interior (hide the camera and their cables, yo), and gave a pep talk to the staff. Still decent sushi and Id eat there again.

I liked the atmosphere but it was really dark for daytime and the windows are heavily tinted, which I understand because its on a main road and the glare from traffic and cars going by could impact customers. Service was ok, but no one checked on us after we got our food and no refills on our drink. We ordered a meal that came with soup, salad and a roll and intended on having the soup and salad first. After we ordered, and confirmed the meal came with both items the person serving us told us the soup would be out first then turned around, quickly walked away and started dealing with another customer for a pickup order. We felt like we annoyed and offended her in some way so we just let it slide because people have bad days where they just dont smile or want to be helpful. I really hope the service improves because the food is fantastic.

Comment: Owner Eddie has atrocious customer service. We order three separate orders to go and my brother and I each had a Groupon for $7 off. I called before I sent my brother in to grab the food to let them know I am currently on high level of oxygen so I have large tanks I get short of breath walking and asked if my brother can take my phone and cc in to grab my separate order. She said if it’s just the two. But then I hear her manager talking over her in the back saying no. Only one per person so if only one person only one Groupon. I said it is but let him know about my disability so it’s hard for my to physically come in. He did not care about the fact that I’m disabled and on oxygen if I want to use my Groupon I have to come in to get it my self. I asked if someone can do curbside for my order and she said she is the only one there even though when I was forced to go in he was just sitting there doing nothing. I can’t believe an owner would be like that over a $7 coupon when we spent over $75 all together. He could have at least done it this one time and I would have made sure to bring my sis to go in for ours. But the fact that he refused makes me not want to support his business any longer. My family and friends have been repeat customer but not anymore.

I’ve never been to a restaurant where you can’t sit outside unless it’s upscale or luxury: it wasn’t busy it was barely 4:45 pm on a Monday with a light guest list. When my food was ready instead of handing it to me she just placed it on a chair 😒 I’mDefinitely taking my business elsewhere and customers can sense good/negative energy. Comment: Edit: Im updating my review three years later. Dine in or carry out Hana Matsuri never disappoints. We went in tonight with our (now all three) kids in tow. Wonderful service. Excellent flavor- I didnt have to drown my sushi in lots of ginger, soy or wasabi. GF options. Every single roll was tasty. The portions and prices are great. I am so happy this place survived the pandemic. If youre looking for tasty, quality sushi in Lakewood this is the place to go.Pretty darn close to the best sushi we have ever had. Our 4 year old and 9 month old approved of the sweet potatoe roll, Vegas roll, and big daddy roll. I think that says something. My cocktail was delicious. The service was wonderful. We were seated promptly even on a busy Saturday night. Our server was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. I think its awesome they can create a sushi roll with quinoa instead of rice, if you prefer. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and Im sure we will be back.

Comment: I had the pleasure of eating here on a recent trip and the experience was beyond compare. We ordered from the sushi menu, mostly sashimi, but also some nigiri and one roll. The surprise delicacy of the evening was the eggplant sushi (nigiri) — unbelievable! Perfectly roasted, it melted on the tongue, with just the right amount of rice supporting it. The New Style Salmon Roll has to be one of the best fusion rolls I’ve ever tasted. The combination of flavors, not too heavy on the rice or seaweed, with the addition of oba leaf, hits all five flavor profiles perfectly. I almost melted on the spot with each bite. Kudos to the chefs for their imagination and skill. This will become my top spot to eat any time I am in Lakewood from here forward.

Comment: Early in September, I stopped by to have Sashimi (lunch) and asked a server how many pieces of fish are included, and he said eight, which is different from 10pc according to the menu posted online. I asked for a printed menu while I sat down, he just said scan the QR code on the table with my phone. I didnt have a phone with me at that time. Was I lied to? Or was it a simple mistake on the server whose job is taking an order from the customers? I just left without ordering any.

Comment: First time eating inside. Nicely appointed. The staff were proper in their duties. The Hana has their own creations which are described on the back of the order sheet along with all the usual rolls and you get a full size pencil. 😄 What was the most interesting aspect was the choice of background music, Spanish music! I was there on a Groupon which comes in handy. The only way to get into the parking lot is by going North on Union. There are two sets of retail stores with Hana being in the second set, see pics.

Comment: A hidden gem! This Japanese sushi-and-more restaurant is literally hidden on a busy highway but once inside it is a must visit. We were impressed that the lunch menu had numerous choices based on raw seafood, way beyond sushi. We had “Tuna in 3 Ways” ($17) that included hefty slices, sashimi and super-fresh melt-in-mouth sushi. A fresh salad or miso soup was included. Our other entrée was the “Chirashi Bowl,” a cornucopia of varied raw fish, (salmon, Tuna, yellowfin, shrimp) easily enough for two. ($24; see photo). Miso soup alone is $4. A separate order of Udon noodles (with egg, chicken and shrimp) was $16. A Small hot sake is just $2-$3. Hot tea is only $1.50 – the best deals in town. The vibe was quiet but inviting, with friendly, well informed waitstaff.

Comment: Let me start with omg Im from the cost so am always afraid of eating fish not near an ocean...But Hana Matsuris fish was so fresh and delicious I had to write this review. Wether it was unagi or the blue fin tuna everything tasted amazing. I only eat blue fin at 3 places in Colorado and this is one of them, and I think it might be the best here. If your looking for melt in your mouth Sushi and Shashi this is the place. Now I didnt just give a 5 star because if the fish quality... The staff! The staff will make you have a wonderful dining experience. They have a good bar too! And then there is the owner, a nicer guy you could not meet. First time I ever walked into Hana Matsuri I was welcomed by the owner and I felt a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the entire restaurant. A true five stars from me!

The first time we ordered take out from here, we were so impressed with the presentation and the quality of the sushi that we continued to order take out and dine in house for the next few years. Sadly, tonight we decided it was our last visit. Our food took 45 minutes, the ambiance is horrendous (borderline dumpy), the sushi tasted off, every staff member seemed rushed and stressed and I counted 6 tables or about 13 people total in the restaurant. Tonight, our takeout consisted of styrofoam containers and portion cups of dipping sauce about a quarter full. You get the picture. Either Hana has new ownership or the existing ownership is really trying to cut corners. AND I get it, I own 2 restaurants and KNOW times are really tough right now. But I have made changes to improve our experience to our devoted and new customers during these unsure times with hopes they continue to come back so we can stay open.

After being seated we waited 15 minutes before a guy came out of the back to greet us, despite the restaurant being nearly empty and then our server disappeared into the back again. After sitting for 30 minutes without even water we got up and left. Comment: My Husband and I normally go to the Hannah Matsuri out North, The food and Service has always been excellent, Since we have moved out here in South Denver and we found that there was a Hannah Matsuri In Lakewood we were Super excited as this is one of our most favorite places to eat at. Tonight my Husband and I brought my daughter and Granddaughters Out for a nice dinner, And First the Manager had difficulty in communicating with her staff in getting us seated. We had 7 in our party and was only given 2 napkins and silverware. By the time our waitress came to check on our table my granddaughter was eating with her hands. The Manager then came to our table and so rudely told my daughter to have the girls turn down there IPADs. I want to add that this place is not a quite atmosphere at all! And I could see if there shows super exceeded the atmospheric noise and if other customers were complaining but this is not the case at all. So we asked the waitress to speak another manager and she said the only other person available didn’t speak English. So over the next 30 minutes we watched our waitress, the rude manager and the other manager who apparently wasn’t able to speak English Snicker and look over at our table and laugh. This ever so rude Manager who apparently this was her first week on the job. I have never felt so uncomfortable while trying to enjoy a nice dinner out with my family ever! I was thoroughly disgusted in their unprofessionalism. Who ever hired this manger should really reconsider such a bad choice in character.. The manager in question did cone to our table and apologized and offered a dessert as peace offering which we would have respected but then walked toward the back and continued to snicker with other two employees and laugh! I think the future I would much rather take the drive to the restaurant out north where they have Class!! #verydisgusted

My sister-in-law is Japanese I know Sushi well. This is a hip happening sushi bar with fantastically fresh fish. The presentation of the dishes is beautiful beautiful. Comment: Being very picky with my sushi, both on taste and price (San Diego spoiled me), I was far beyond pleased with the meal I had here. Getting a Sashimi and Nigiri platter, this was easily the most flavourful tuna and yellowtail Ive had, period. I felt like I did not need teeth to eat it, as all was so soft and fresh. Not an ounce of the dreaded fishy flavour, just pure bliss in every bite. If one is looking for a great meal at a good price (that honestly could increase prices and still be deemed fair), this is the place to go! Thank you guys for an awesome meal and great waitstaff!

The staff are always friendly and the service has always been on top of our needs. When you have a toddler with you, that can really tell you what type of place you are dealing with. But they are very accommodating. The sushi is some of the best. We have yet to be disappointed with anything we have ordered (and my wife and I have been there plenty in the last 2years since we have discovered Hana Matsuri). They have steak on a stone where you cook the steak at your table to your liking. And they have very nice quality cuts of beef. Ive been to some of the proclaimed best steak houses in Denver, and its Hit or Miss...Sometimes they dont cook the steak as I ordered it. Sometimes a cut of beef is Meh... And sometimes the steakhouses get it right. But this restaurant gets it right every time, because Im in control of the steak and the meat is served with very nice sauces and sides. Comment: There is utterly nothing attractive about the location. Its not a place you would otherwise desire to be... The interior is fine, nothing stands out but it doesnt smell and thats a good thing.The food is good but nothing distinctively creative and although it didnt blow me away it seems like a reliable spot for sushi among the quality-starved restaurant abyss that is Lakewood. I also dined alone so trying more of the menu with group may be a better place to review from.

Comment: Love love love this place! This is my local sushi joint and my favorite place for date night. The staff is always on it even when they are busy (heads up, if you go on a Friday or Saturday night you may have to wait for a table). Last night in particular we had Anita (according to our receipt) as our waitress and she was so sweet and attentive and I hope to have her wait on us again in the future. We love all of their rolls and had some sashimi for the first time from this location last night and it was so fresh and tasty! I highly recommend this place!

I liled what I ordered...and although Im not a sushi fan, I liked the food and LOVED the many choices on the menu. Great experience and I even learned how to use Chopstiks. Great evening. Comment: We recently moved out to South Denver and this place is just as good as the one out north on 120th and federal. The service, food and drinks were amazing. The tuna avocado salad is a must for starters! If you want a little spice you gotta have the spicy buncho.

Comment: When my friend asked the waitress whats sushi? She was on point. When asked what a Nigiri was she failed me right where she was standing. My friend wasnt a first time sushi lover. He for some reason decided to test this girl.Refresher: Nigiri in Japanese means two fingers (ni = two, giri = fingers). Nigiri sushi gets its name from the rice which has to be of a very specific portion and fit on the chefs two fingers when pressing. Sushi is a Japanese term that refers to anything made with vinegared rice. Youre welcome!:)Im a sashimi girl myself. I consider rice as fillers. But I love me some good fried rice!#2 Refresher: Sashimi is a Japanese term for pierced flesh (Sashi = pierced, mi = flesh). The term may have originated from the culinary practice of sticking the fishs tail and fin to the slices in identifying the fish being eaten. Another possibility for the name could come from the traditional method of harvesting - Sashimi Grade fish is caught by individual hand line. As soon as the fish is landed, it is pierced with a sharp spike and placed in a body of ice. This spiking is call the Ike Jime process. Ok enough refreshers!This place I wouldnt go back if given a choice. No. Not the fact that she doesnt know her stuff ( maybe her first day on the job?) but their other comments just turned me off. I go to restaurants to enjoy the whole atmosphere, culture and whatnots. Because Im curious by nature. Here Im so turned off I just wanted to leave.My Saba sashimi was fresh and portioned right. The chefs were awesome. Its the two staff. The new menu has a cool selection of dishes that can be cooked at the table on hot stones. My beverage was served very cold and the food arrived before I was halfway done. Delicious kobe beef for a very reasonable price. They always seem to have a groupon deal going on as well which is great, especially when going in for a quick lunch. Comment: We came in on a Friday night and it was packed (good sign.) Its pretty obvious why! Even though it was crowded we were seated at the bar very quickly. The sushi menu looked so good it took us a while to order even though we were so hungry when we got there. He miss was served traditional sipping style (and freaking delicious) and the warm sake was delicious. Because we sat at the bar the sushichefs just handed our food to us when it was ready, it was great! They were slammed but all smiles. The sushi was incredible! Comment: My husband and I went here for a special night out and picked it out because it was the closest to us with the best reviews. I’ve had a lot of sushi in Denver, and this is definitely in my top and will be my new go to place.The atmosphere was cool, the sake happy hours special was awesome, (plus beers!), and we got the golden mussels appetizer and it was perfect. The miso soup was nothing like I’ve had before, so authentic and tasty!We got a sushi boat and chef’s choice of rolls and sashimi. And it was so tasty. We even decided to get the banana tempura dessert.Overall worth the money! You can tell this place takes sushi seriously and not just a pop up sushi joint.

This time we were sat right next to the door on a freezing day. Making a reservation seems to be a joke!!Food is always great and made in reasonable time. Our server sunshine is really good. Comment: The 5 Star rating was kind of hard for me to give...but the taste freshness and service of the little hidden gem in the heart of Green Mountain! I really like this place! They didnt pressure us into getting anything like a few reviews that I have read about this place! They were friendly and welcoming! We got some starters... calamari is always a favorite! And it was freaking amazing...it was soft and tender unlike a lot of the other sushi places I have been to around town! I will be coming back to this plane and recommend it to everyone I know and who reads this review!

Comment: Fresh fish, pretty good service and atmosphere. Rolls are a little more expensive than other places but are also bigger. Menu features a lot of crab in the rolls as well. Everything was good but watch out for the specials. The Bluefin tuna we ordered was 26$ for only about 4 ounces of fish. It was very good but we assumed it was between $14-18 given it was advertised as an appetizer. Overall good experience but we felt the appetizer was way overpriced.

We let the waitress know that we were in a rush and had to be at an appointment in 30 minutes. she put a rush on our order and as soon as we were donewaaho g our hands the sushi was out! Bill was dropped and constant check ups. VERY FRIENDLY SERVICE. Our rolls were jam packed. I dont leave restaurant reviews often because service is always just okay. They definitely deserve 5 stars!

Comment: Being a regular customer 2-3 times a month we made reservation for 6:15 PM arrived 6:25 and was told by the hostess that due to our tardiness we gave away your reservation ......... serious...... 10 minutes due to traffic and trying to get a parking place really!! I have never been treated so rudely.. Tank you need to talk to your staff that customers come first.... It will be a long time before we go back, if ever. Food has always been great, this is disappointing, but disrespect is inexcusable!

Comment: This is an absolute gem of a sushi restaurant. Squeezed into the middle of a strip mall, you might not expect to find a high quality sushi restaurant, but Hana Matsuri delivers! My wife and I have been there 3 times in the last 2 months because it is so good. They have everything you would expect on a traditional sushi menu with plenty of sashimi and nigiri options as well as a number of unique specialty rolls. We are huge fans of the Dragon Roll!Its also worth mentioning that they have a number of good beers and they are very cheap. You can get a an import beer there for $2-3. They have a grill as well where they cook meat on a superheated piece of black granite. However I have never tried the grilled food because the sushi is so good.They have enough tables that you can bring a modest-sized group here. Did you get busy on Friday and Saturday night but during the week you can walk right in and grab a table.The service is prompt and friendly. We started to get to know one of the waitresses which makes eating there even better.

Comment: Idk what this guy is talking about. I am not an insider but a local resident down the road. I tried this place and got a couple rolls to go. Not only was it the worst sushi Ive ever had, but it made me and my significant other sick, both of us throwing up. It was 100 percent the sushi. Also, I personally think you can get better sushi at Safeway or king soopers,as sad as that is. Good staff though, not their fault the sushi is terrible.

Comment: This little restaurant is quite possibly in my top 3 Asian cuisine meals I have ever eaten in my 15-20 years of traveling the country and eating in the Asian, Thai, Indian category. Everything is evidently made from scratch. Everything tasted fresh, cooked correctly, and was simply delicious! The staff was prompt, courteous, and friendly! Comment: My wife an I ate there opening week. The food is absolutely fantastic. All the sauces on the sushi are hand made by them, no bottled or jarred sauce. Tamago is also hand made by them, something that is less and less common these days. Service was super friendly, they went above and beyond to cater to my pregnant wife (cant have anything raw). Price was reasonable, nothing amazing. atmosphere was a bit sterile and cold for my taste, but done well.
