Comment: Mega expensive for what you get. Rice bowls are $15 for $3-4 worth of food. Chicken teriyaki bowl was just sliced plain chicken on a bit of rice with a cup of teriyaki on the side. Could do that at home with 0 effort. At least we got 1 piece of broccoli each 😂 Havent tried the rolls, but why would I when I could get it cheaper elsewhere. Atmosphere is awesome though. Would like the place if prices were cheaper/bigger portions

Comment: This is maybe my favorite sushi restaurant in STL! The calamari is amazing, although a bit on the pricey side. I always get the American Idol roll. I have tried the bulgogi don, shrimp & veggie tempura, and a few others of their rolls. Everything is always delicious!

Comment: The best sushi place in the area! Ive never had anything here that I wouldnt recommend. We often get the bulgogi roll and the Corona, both are excellent. The fish is always fresh and the rice is always perfectly cooked. They also have outstanding gyoza and other appetizers. And dont forget to ask for fresh wasabi!

Comment: Wonderful food. Elegantly presented sashimi, sushi, takoyaki, gyoza, udon, don buri (bowls of food), and other Japanese options. Many many types of sushi rolls. In total, there is not only more than standard Japanese fare, but it is also delicious, high quality, and beautifully presented. Many different sakes, mixed drinks, and Japanese beers along with international Gin, bourbon, tequila, rum options. They even have Japanese soda pop. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely decor with exquisite hand painted scenes. I had been there once before and couldn’t wait to go back for seconds to show my adult son who also, this day enjoyed his food immensely.

Comment: The food was great! The food pictured is the tuna tower, double crab (roll on the left), and the corona (roll on the right) we will eat here again because the food was worth it. I gave them a 4 star rating because the staff wasn’t friendly and weren’t very attentive. After being seated it took almost 20 minutes for them to ask about drinks and after asking it took them another 15 minutes to bring out our waters which never got refilled. And the rest of the meal the service was the same way. Hopefully they can get better staffed soon!

When placing the order Im always told its an hour which I wait at home, then once I get there its another 30+ minutes of waiting. My most recent experience was 1 hour at home and 45 mins of waiting in the restaurant. They clearly dont understand how long it takes to cook food for takeout. My GF got the Uboo Udon and the broth was basically unseasoned and the noodles were already slimy. I dont know if this low quality is common with Izakaya, but I would not recommend.

Their dinning room seems to be the perfect size for their business and includes booths, free standing tables, high tops, and a small bar area. The staff is always happy to see you and make the experience. Their sushi rolls are delicious and of wide variety. Its more expensive than going to eat at a chain but a good price for sushi. Comment: I LOVE this place! The presentation of the sushi is beautiful and it always comes out quickly. Every roll I have tried has been great! The staff is so nice, most of the time I get really good service. Ive learned there are certain servers who are knowledgeable about menu items and more attentive, I will request them if I see they are available. I have been greeted as I step in the door as well as thanked on my way out every single time. If you are in the mood for sushi and dont want to be disappointed you definitely need to try this place out!*great happy hour menu*mochi ice cream!! (Mango and strawberry are the best flavors)

Comment: It was friday night and we got the last table. The staff was slow and more flustered than I have seen at other crowded restaurants. I heard a waitress ask a table if they were ready for a check and the table responded that they were still waiting for their food. When our food finally arrived they only brought one of our orders and left with no indication anything else was coming. Eventually the other order came and I was told the kitchen just sends stuff out when its ready. We ordered 5 sushi rolls and I didnt find any of them to be amazing. The fried rolls were only slightly warm, not hot when they arrived. They were small for the price and when I left I was still hungry. The texture of the fried rolls reminded my girlfriend of chicken fingers and I thought it was hard and detracted from the flavor of the roll. One of the rolls we ordered was supposed to be spicy but only a couple of them actually ended up being very spicy. In general the food was relatively bland compared to sushi AI. The most expensive roll I ordered was $14 and it wasnt very flavorful. There were some rolls on the menu priced at $20. Maybe those are actually good. The staff was nice and it was a nice enough place. I greatly prefer sushi AI.

Ive been to several of the very well known sushi places in STL (and other cities), and this one ranks right up there with any of them. Expect typical $8 - $10ish for standard rolls, and $12 - $15ish for signature ones, and completely worth it.

The best one there is the Tuna Tower, it is an amazing tower of spicy tuna, a delicious formula of crab mix, avocado, and rice. The sauces that they have are amazing and not sickly sweet. The atmosphere is very nice and dark and the service is very nice. We were immediately welcomed when we walked in by the kitchen staff and owner in Japanese and were served very quickly. This is by far the best sushi restaurant in St. Louis.

Happy hour prices are very good. I think the owners are Korean because you see a lot of Korean staples mixed in with traditional Japanese izakaya fare. Both are excellent - highly recommend the bulgogi, staples like the Takoyaki and hamachi Kama, and kimchi fried rice. Also the sushi is very good for the price

The owner is Korean and in addition to being a great sushi chef, he also makes the best Kal-Bi and Kimchi I have ever had. I grew up in Hawaii with many asian influences and Korean and Japanese were always my favorites. Izakaya Ren does a great job of incorporating the things I love best into a kind of fusion offering. An example; the Crunch Bulgogi Hand Roll. This is a japanese style sushi hand roll with Rice, Bulgogi (Korean bar b que beef), cucumber, srirachi mayo, and topped with tempura crumbles. I wake up in the middle of the night wanting those. My wife loves the Spicy Scallop Hand Roll or the Yum Yum Roll. Both have scallops and an awesome spicy sauce like nothing I have ever seen.The owner is a great guy. We always come with our 12-year old and he always comes by with a Ramune (Japanese soda). The staff is friendly and they always shout a welcome from the kitchen when you enter and a thank you when you leave.Oh, I almost forgot the best part...$1 second beer. I love the Japanese lagers and they have them all in the 22 Ounce bottles. Buy one (+/- $5.00) and the second is only a buck...all the time. I find myself getting a second even if I dont need it and a get a couple of glasses to share with other diners. Kind of fun that way.This is a great place, excellent for couples, happy hour or families.

Too bad Im conditioned to want marina sauce with it and there is none here. :( Over all worth coming here for the food. I live near here and it a regular place I go to.
