Comment: Wouldnt know how the food was because no one ever came out of the back office (we could hear them talking) to greet or seat us. We stood by the door for a few minutes to give them a chance. The restaurant was empty, even though a check on Google Maps had said they were open and busy. The OPEN sign in the window was on and the front door was unlocked. Everything indicated they were open for business except for the absence of staff. It was weird.

Comment: My fiance and I went here for the first time tonight and it was sooo good. Every roll was delicious and filling, I especially liked the Kobe beef roll it was my first time having something like that and I would definitely recommend it.The restaurant was busy but the staff did a great job!

Comment: This is a strip mall sushi place. Better than youd expect for a strip mall sushi place. But still, the strip mall sushi place. Its actually got a rather nice interior from what I would expect of a strip mall sushi place. However my wife gives it a three out of five. Take that for whatever its worth. It was clean, plenty of tables. Room at the sushi bar which is what I care about.Now to get to whats more important, we had some rolls, Sushi, and Sashimi. I thought that the rolls were really good. I wasnt really in the mood for sushi that night, so I was eating the rolls. My wife had some salmon sashimi. We had the Toro, the chef said it was good. And it was pretty good. Not excellent, but pretty good. Now dont get me wrong here, it was excellent food. But then Toro is supposed to be excellent food. So judging by that, I give it a pretty good.Note that this is a sushi bar that wraps its fish in plastic. Which is a sure note that theyre not getting enough turnover to keep the fishes fresh as Id like. But theres only one or two places in Denver that can do that. And, I havent seen a strip mall sushi bar that can.I like this place. Its the better of the two strip mall sushi bars in Southwest Lakewood. So if you find yourself in this area, and you want some sushi, but you dont want to drive all over the place, pick this.

Comment: This was our first meal in Colorado and so glad it was. Great and friendly service. Everything was delicious from the food to the tea to the mochi desert. Hope to come back again before we go back home. By far one the best sushi we have had in a long time.Update: took one star off. To go food wasn’t as good and they provided no utensils or napkins. They also stapled the bag shut so we couldn’t check the order. Salmon was over cooked and dry. Online ordering doesn’t allow you to choose drinks or desert.

Comment: Editing my previously fond review from a couple years ago...Ive been coming to this business since they opened and have at times ordered from them multiple times a week. I dont eat fish, and therefore always order vegetarian sushi. Ive watched the AAC and other fish-free rolls dwindle in size such that ordering even a few of them barely constitutes a meal. The end pieces of the roll often just have a single small strip of cucumber in them...awful.Suffice it to say, the price has increased, and the amount of food decreased. I sure wish they would consider making them as they used to...this is my neighborhood sushi joint.

Comment: First time here during lunch with my sister and based on the reviews itself we wanted to try it out. But in my opinion I felt like the food and experience didnt stand up to par with most of the reviews posted on here. Two servers and one sushi chef....I have never been to a sushi restaurant with less than two sushi chefs and the reason why is to keep up with the orders being taken. It got to the point where the one sushi chef got overwhelmed and a server had to go back and help make the orders. The service was ok, didnt feel like it was amazing since the greeting point was like a hi, bye type feeling. The food was priced ok for some of their specialty rolls but the sushi/sashimi for 2pcs an order was expensive. 2pcs was about $7-$21 depending on what you ordered. Ive been to places where you can order good quality sushi rolls for $21 and it was rolls with toro in it or even lobster. For the price of 2pcs Orion was charging for, I couldve gotten 4pcs at other sushi restaurants. Sushi rolls we ordered as well was tasting more like the sauce then the actual fish we were eating. Unfortunate because Im paying to be able to eat and taste the fish Im eating not drown in sauce. Preparation of the food was done well but I probably wont be coming back anytime soon. But if they had been more preppy from the start and had help preparing the orders rather than have one sushi chef alone doing all the order everything wouldve probably been better.

Comment: This place is my absolute must-go for sushi. I have been frequenting Orion since I moved to Lakewood a year ago and I’m addicted. I come every Friday just for the Crazy Tuna roll alone. The only thing I love more than tuna is garlic and this roll brings them both in a beautifully orchestrated roll. The only thing better than the food is the staff who are some of the most hardworking and grateful people I have ever met. So happy to have such amazing sushi so close.

Comment: Ive been here twice. Orion staff do a great job on offering a wide variety to their customers. Theres something for everyone on the menu. That said, I found this little gem that isnt found on the online menu. I assume its because of the uni and fatty tuna that at times can be in limited supply. Regardless, its a decadent treat that I dont see often. Ill be back to try more items for sure. The prices were very reasonable and had many options for the budget spender or the high roller. It was operated by a talented and friendly staff. It stood out that the server was observing our needs every time he passed by. He was eager to answer questions and take care of the customers needs. This was impressive, because he had quite a few tables to tend to. I was not expecting this from what appeared to be a hole in the wall sushi place. I am eager to return and see what else they have to offer. After a few visits the quality and care for service and food have surpassed my expectations. I am pretty picky about food especially sushi...yet this establishment has given me no complaints. Well done Orion Sushi.

Comment: A hidden gem in Lakewood. Exceptional quality sushi, great service and the they care about presentation. So many sushi restaurants have let the presentation element dwindle to nothing more than a fancy plate but not here. I had the new style sashimi appetizer with yellowtail and salmon in a ponzu sauce and garnished with herbs and tobiko. Excellent start. Then came the Aburi style seared nigiri topped with Japanese mayo, scallop and two kinds of salmon. The scallop was the star of this course, so good I reordered it. Then the salmon belly sashimi entree, absolutely amazingly good. Served on ice topped with daikon radish and a hidden pulsing neon light. Fun. Then the Black Dragon roll with spicy crab and tempura shrimp inside, rolled and topped with avocado and freshwater eel and garnished with eel sauce and sesame seeds. This was the only disappointment as this roll would have benefited from more of the savory eel sauce. Of course they have a nice selection of sakes and Japanese beers to round out the meal. Orion Sushi can hang with the best places in Denver.

Comment: Ordered hot sake and hamachikama for an app, salad and sashimi and a sushi roll for an entree. The hot sake tasted a little skunky, the hamachikama appetizer came in after the entree came. The salad was doused with dressing and not very tasty. Sashimi temperature was cold and something just seemed off, especially with the salmon (grainy and not the normal salmon texture). The cuts were not normal sashimi cuts, but were thicker than normal. 2 stars because the service was good. All in all, we wont be coming back.

Comment: In the past, this place has been hit or miss. This recent experience was such a MISS that we will never go back. We did carry-out, only to discover that no wasabi had been packed. In our lives, sushi without wasabi is not acceptable (note: this has happened before there). We called back, got an apology, but no offer of anything else. We also requested a gift card as compensation.I drove back to get the wasabi, and two young women offered apologies and handed me a bag of more food in compensation. I told them I did not need more food but asked for a gift card. The women said the manager had said no. Note: the manager did not appear to apologize him/her self to me directly.Evaluation of the food: poor. the blue fin tuna sashimi had tough skin left on it. The extra bag of food also had tuna that appeared to be small scraps or leftovers from something else. Other tuna was frozen. ICK. The rolls were mostly rice with very limited fish ingredients. They also left out a key ingredient of some hand rolls.I think we could overlook some of these issues if the food was good or the manager was nice. But, honestly, neither was the case here. There are too many other sushi places to explore :)

A few of my coworkers and I stopped in here after work, and we loved every second of the experience. From the sake, to the miso soup, this place is good all around. The sushi was some of the best I’ve had in a while! They have tasty rolls, and the snow crab cream cheese wontons are a must! They have high quality sushi, generous fish cut, and very nice plating. We were so busy digging in that we forgot taking pictures. My husband is pretty picky when it comes to sushi since he used to only eat at Sushi Den and he was happy with the sushi here. We’re the only one in the restaurant at the time, so can’t tell how attentive the servers are during busy time. Our server was very nice and friendly. I will definitely come back.Updated: we recently went back for our anniversary and got a couple of pictures. Sushi quality is still top notch and service is great.

Comment: Ive been wanting to try Orion since it recently opened in Lakewood and is close to home. The short answer is that it was very good. Ive eaten sushi in New York and locally at Shiso Sushi & Oyster Bar, which I consider one of the best in Denver. Orion compares favorably because of the freshess of the sushi. The Shiso Sushi menu has better variety and I prefer the Sashimi there, which comes in larger portions. The Sashimi at Orion was small and delicate and accompanied with jalapeño and fish roe. The to-go order came with plenty of fresh ginger and Wasabi paste. I will order from Orion again because of location but will also continue to visit Shiso when I want better Sashimi or other types of sushi varieties.

Comment: Ate here for the first time last night. The spicy edamame was delicious... just the right amount of heat. Toro nigiri was sooo fresh. We were accidentally given the mango roll that we didnt order....but loved. Spicy scallops were better than any weve had around Denver. We are excited to have found such good sushi on this side of town. Great service too.

Comment: The presentation is beautiful. Service is very good especially for a new place thats working out the kinks. Pricing is competitive with other sushi spots in the area. I would have liked the textures and flavors to be a bit more distinct from one another but I am pretty picky when it comes to sushi. E.g. Not enough crunch in the rolls that had fried components but I think with some time under their belt theyll definitely be a great neighborhood sushi place. Definitely worth trying again.My only real complaint is that the seating is not at all designed for safety to maintain social distancing. Just a bit too close for comfort.

Comment: Really wanted to love this local place but food was not even close to what it should have been. The grocery store has better sushi... Our rolls were missing ingredients and none were wrapped correctly (all came broken at the seam). The veggie rolls we ordered separate from the rest had a fishy taste to them. The “pan fried” gyoza appeared and tasted boiled with a half second stint on a greasy griddle. Sushi is not cheap nor should it be due to the work involved with preparation, but this was over priced for what you received. Maybe they do not put as much effort in to go orders but with the times, they need to start. Much better places to go.

First of all lets talk about the phenomenal flavors and freshness of their sushi. Every bite left me saying omfg heaven. Second the prices. We had 3 rolls and 2 hot saki bottles for less than $50. Simply put you will not find a deal this good anywhere else. Thank you Orion for being my little ray of sunshine in the denver metro area. So close to home as well! We are in love with you, thanks for our new date night spot!Side note, service was fantastic as well!

Comment: The first thing I love about Orion is that the sushi is NOT served on bamboo - which always seems to impart a bleach taste. So extra points for the ceramic plates and trays. Delicious, fresh, excellent flavors - from the simplest rolls to the wildly creative. Dont let the lowly strip mall location deter you. Stop in.

Comment: This place is conveniently across the street from us, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it out! The atmosphere is beautiful and clean, and the fish seems super fresh. The sushi artists there take their time to make the dish look like art. The waiter we had was incredibly attentive and kind. Plus the sake is delicious! Will definitely be frequents here. Comment: This new sushi place is staffed with people who really know how to prepare excellent tasting food that is also artistic. They incorporate flowers into most of their designs. The sushi chefs care about their craft and pick fresh ingredients. Plus they often have 2 for 1 sake special. The hot sake tastes great! Also they love all types of customers... Take out, single, couples, friends, and families. So so so nice! And yummy! My favorite roll is the Los Angeles (gotta hand write it). We also had special Japanese fish sashimi which was great. Weve been there 3 times during their first month!

Variety, flavor and service were spot on.Our only issue: every server (there were many) REPEATEDLY placed every single plate or food item in front of our 6 month old (who was in a high chair). I mean every time. Hot soup, glasses of water, steaming bowl of rice, dinner plate. Never failed, despite the rest of the table being open.But we would definitely go back!

Comment: So glad this place opened! Lakewood has a new, great spot for sushi. Owners took a lot of time to create a beautiful space. The fish was outstanding, the service was attentive without being annoying. It was slow (we came in late) but they were accommodating and offered a few ‘extras’ because we told them how long we’d been watching their signs in hopes of opening. It’s not just sushi, they have other dishes, like tempura and noodles and rice bowls. Nice to have in South Lakewood.

Comment: We were so excited to try this place. Slightly disappointed. The service was a bit slow. After we sat down, it was approximately ten minutes before we even received water. We ordered our food as she brought us water. It seems to take a while for each request. At one point during our dinner we asked for more water... she never came back. When we asked another waiter, within a few minutes our waitress came back and apologized telling us they were short staffed. At this point we were already done with our food.As far as the food. It was ‘pretty good’. Nothing to write home about. I was very disappointed in the Kobe beef roll. The asparagus that was in it was SO thick and there were two pieces of it. You could barely taste the Kobe beef. We took out the asparagus, which was the size of my pinky finger. After that, is was good. The blue fin jalapeño was good! The spicy crispy tuna was good. The Golden roll was ok. The ichiban roll was Very good!! And the NY roll had TOO much cream cheese.The prices were good. For the amount of food and purple haze, all under 100.I liked that afterwards the waitress came up ask asked how everything was. She took our notes, our opinion, and said she would pass it along.We will try this place again... see if we can give 5 stars!

Comment: So I had the pleasure of stopping in for happy hour the evening of the grand opening.Very cute very modern Japanese cuisine spot.Months of work on this retail unit and it shows - the interior is adorbs and very easy on the eyes. As pretty as Cafe Jordanos next door (which is saying something) - I suspect this restaurant will absorb a huge amount of the weekend overflow from Jordanos substantial weekend crowds.Excellent looking menu beyond sushi - reasonably priced cooked dishes taken up several pages of a nicely printed menu so new you can still smell the ink from the print shop.Staff was busy but not overwhelmed - excellent sign for a newly opened restaurant - and the dining room was largely full just after 6pm.Lovely addition to this neck of Lakewood.Will be interested to see how this spot develops, but for now, definitely recommend.Will be back for more Kirian Ichiban soon.
