Comment: Called and asked if I should make a reservation. They said to just come on in and told them Iā€™d be there in 30 minutes. Get there and Iā€™m told itā€™s an hour wait. Why wouldnā€™t you just tell me to make a reservation like I asked?

Comment: We came here for a Birthday dinner for mom at and we wanted to try everything (and I think we almost did) my favorite part about this place is the opportunity to share everything with the table and try a bit of all the food. The vibes are great with nice lighting and beautiful tables and artwork. Our sever was also amazing and I wish I remembered his name because he was super helpful!I couldnt tell you everything we got, but I could tell you it was all very yummy! make sure to make a reservation because table fill fast!Thank you for making this birthday extra special @sado.stl!

Comment: Excellent. Service and flavor both 10/10. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. There is a balance to be struck between being well looked after and being smothered, and i feel like they have the perfect mix. I felt some of the rolls were poorly constructed, which I wouldnt expect for the price. However! The flavor, quality of ingredients and service (alongside the amazing drinks) more than made up for it. Several of the dishes were the best examples i have had. The sea urchin nigiri and the Chilean Seabass cooked in a Yaki oven were highlights. Overall a really special evening, and Im being super critical on the rolls purely because the rest was so good. We will be returning as soon as possible.

Comment: The food is absolutely delicious. I think it is the best sushi in St. Louis. The atmosphere is great and a lovely place for a date night. We sat at the cocktail bar and our bartender James was unbelievable. James made great recommendations, great drinks, and was so knowledgeable that one of our favorite dishes was one that James picked out. I would highly recommend!

Comment: We have been to Sado several times since they opened on the Hill. The fish is as good as it gets. The preparation and quality of their fish is like you are in Chicago or New York. The prices are surprisingly St Louis. Our waitresses are always knowledgeable about what they serve, they have always been very pleasant as well.

Comment: We didnt get to eat at Sado because their water got turned off due to frozen pipes on January 14th. I was anxious about making reservations that could potentially cost me $40 if I couldnt make it for some reason. Then, they called at 530PM to tell me they were closed due to the water issue. Seemed like they should have figured that out earlier and let me know so I could have made other arrangements. Also, can I charge them $40 for cancelling my reservation? Hmmm.

Comment: Indifferent, absolutely unprofessional service. And proud of it! Seven different servers brought us parts of our meal, but no one seemed invested in serving us a dinner. Most plates were plopped down, some with an explanation or name, some just plopped down! Yet it took over five minutes to find something who could find us a much-needed knife.Sashimi was very good. Most other dishes were too much -- sauce, mayonnaise, etc. Try some simplicity. But the problems start with the menu -- too many things, no rational order, no continuity nor transition from start to finish. We tried very hard to construct a meal, but had a waitress who, Just loves everything on the menu... But she provided totally insufficient guidance. My wife said the menu, the meal, and the service all evening was Chaotic. We will not go back...

Comment: James Carroll is the best bartender of all time. (Ainā€™t nobody got nothin on this boi) Atmosphere, casual conversation, and professionalism is a highly regarded mindset within the staff here at Sado. If you have money, dump it in the tip jar cause the staff will have 100% of your wallet after you experience the satisfaction of the nigiri train seamlessly seeping nutrients and straight wisdom through the blood and directly to the soul!

Comment: My husband and I have visited Sado two times, and each experience was phenomenal! The food is exquisite, service is amazing, and the beverages are unique while still being approachable.During our visit this evening, we splurged and treated ourselves to the Wagyu Hot Rock. It was incredible! The dish comes with 3 ounces of Wagyu beef - it ended up being a larger amount than we anticipated, which was a lovely surprise! Searing the Wagyu on the hot rock at the table ourselves was super fun and immersive. The fish is super fresh and delicate and the accompaniments are perfectly paired. The non-fish items are high quality and one of a kind. The service is incredible - every staff member we spoke with was friendly, informative and appeared to love what they do at this restaurant.Everything we ate (which was a large variety of dishes [we over-ordered with no regrets]) was special in its own way and very high quality. Apart from the nigiri and makimono, I highly recommend the mushroom steam bun and the semifreddo for dessert.10 out of 10 experience - treat yourself to a couple of dishes for a random night out or order too much food for a special occasion and enjoy your leftovers at home.Thank you to everyone who contributed to our special night out and keep up the good work (:

Comment: Honestly, the best meal Iā€™ve had in a while, here or elsewhere. My wife and I had a near-perfect meal tonight and canā€™t wait to get back. The service was great. I liked the atmosphere, but if youā€™re looking for an ā€œintimateā€ dining experience, this isnā€™t your spot. But if what you want is a true, high end sushi/culinary experience, itā€™s tough to find a better spot in St. Louis. Make this a splurge night, and you wonā€™t regret it. The sushi chefs treated us to a couple delicious pieces of gifted nigiri as a thank you for our order, and each was just as impressive as everything we ordered. Fish doesnā€™t get fresher or more beautiful than what Sado is serving. We had been meaning to get in here for months and just never had the chance, but weā€™ll be making a point to get back very soon.

Comment: Sorry but the food was too good to stop and take a picture! The Brussels sprouts is what candy would taste like if grown out of the ground while being kissed by a flame. Sit at the sushi bar and watch art being made, because this group of sushi chefs are on another level. Canā€™t wait to go back!!!

Comment: Not impressed at all. Service was awful, just constantly pushing us to order more. Food was just average. I really think the automatic 20% gratuity is a mistake, the server was cold, impersonal and not very well trained. Her only mission was to bully us into ordering more food. Host/Hostess were unfriendly and unprofessional, would not recommend.

Comment: We went this week to celebrate my birthday, and itā€™s my new favorite restaurant. I was a bit intimidated by the menu as Iā€™m used to much less fancy sushi, but our waitress was so knowledgeable and helped us understand each section and how to get the most out of our meal.We started off with the gyoza, crab rangoon, and pork belly steam buns. They were all delicious but I could have eaten 100 more steam buns because they were so good. From the Nigiri and Sashimi section, we got the hamachi and benitoro. I donā€™t usually like this type of sushi from other places, but Sado made me love it.By the time we got to the Makimono (yufuku maki and tempura maki) I was starting to get full, but the sushi was so good I kept eating well past my usual limits.Lastly, as a birthday gift, our waitress brought us the tempura acorn squash with miso caramel which reminded me of funnel cake but far tastier.Overall, Sado is a restaurant with a wonderfully cozy atmosphere, fantastic food, a knowledgeable and friendly staff, and I cannot wait to go back and try something new.

Comment: We personally did not like it. Sushi rice was very flavorless and overall everything was topped with overpowering sauces . Made me feel greasy after eating. I did not find the flavors well blended. Portions were right/small but that was okay as we did not love the food anyway. We consumed a passion fruit drink with no balance in flavors, just straight chemical juice and alcohol. Very cheap feeling when drinking it. About the atmosphere, there was dance edm music rather than some chill relaxing whatever, it was loud.

Ambiance for such a small space was perfect.Would recommend outdoor heaters or opening 5-10 minutes before first reservation. Our reservation was for 5 pm. We arrived 10 mins early and the door didnt open until 5 on the dot. There was about 10 other people also lined up outside.

Comment: Wow this place is delicious. Probably the best sushi I have had in STL, but to really enjoy it you should order a variety. The fish is fresh and tasty, I wish we would have left room for dessert but we probably ordered one dish too many as we left stuffed. We sat at the sushi bar which was a fun experience. The service was quick and attentive.

Comment: Food, overall: 3.95/5Plating: 4.8/5Price: 3/5Execution: 4/5Playlist: 5/5Service: 5/5I have been looking forward to Sado since iNdo stopped serving nigiri. I decided to take myself on a solo date while my partner was out of town and snagged a reservation at the sushi bar.The sushi bar waitress, Ellie, was very knowledgable. She was pleasant and kept an eye on everyone very well. The sushi chefs on the other hand had the most awkward interaction with me. Almost to a laughable point because the tension was palatable. Nevertheless I enjoyed my ebook and meal, for the most part.I personally find the price point a bit appalling. Considering sushi has roots as a poor mans food and can quite literally be purchased at every super market in Japan. Not to knock the time spent by the kitchen staff here but the markup is over 200%For that, I would expect better execution on the dishes overall. The nigiri was executed perfectly. The sashimi dishes looked stunning, aside from the splatters on the plate due to a rushed hand. Unfortunately the salinity level was near or at excessive though. The Black Tea Kanpachi was dancing the fine line between perfect finishing salt and too much (depending on the piece). Although overall the dish is very pleasant. While my finishing course of Isaan Hamachi was beyond salty. Very disappointing since I chose this an my finale on purpose.I loved the Akami maki! Iā€™m not a big sauce on sushi person but trusted it would be worth it. The herby accompaniments blended well with the subtle heat and oils of tuna.I liked the playlist and felt the volume of the music was good at the sushi bar. Overall I spent just shy of $160 after the required 20% gratuity. Which I would have left more if my hand were not forced. As a restaurant veteran, I hate to see this practice almost as much as QR code menus. It comes across like ā€œyou are lucky to be hereā€ rather than ā€œwe are happy you chose to spend your money hereā€. Takes away from the hospitality aspect, as does leaving a water bottle next to the table for guests to fill up their own glasses.Iā€™ll come back but it wonā€™t be soon.

Comment: +3rd time visiting. I have also frequented Indo and Nippon Tei. This is the closest thing to Japanese Sushi you can get in St. Louis, kind of. Keep in mind that this is a review based off of someone that lived in Seoul/ Tokyo for about half of the life with access to ample amount of high quality sushi at low to high end price points. The quality of fish is very high and the amount of time and focus put into ingredient preparation is evident. However, the techniques and recette doesnā€™t hold up on all of the dishes. I have tried many different types of fish here, and the type of ingredients that outshine and hold up here are Salmon, Tuna and Kinmedai. Saba, Tai can be a hit or miss, which is kind of surprising considering itā€™s in season. I have mixed feelings about the eel, as the saltwater unagi preparation was quite good, but the freshwater eel is pretty average.I would categorize this as really good American fusion sushi, which is a category of its own. More traditional categories to measure sushi establishments (Kanpyo, Tamago and fishier tasting blue skinned fish) is less applicable here. The owner Chef likes to try very experimental sashimi / ceviche-esque dishes including a lot of tea and vinegar infusions. This can be a very hit or miss experience based on what you are looking for. While I will keep digging for other places to satisfy the homesickness attached to Japanese food, this is probably the closest I can get for now. Menya Rui is a great place for Japanese Ramen and Karaage, but I grew up eating sushi and sashimi not ramen and karaage šŸ˜žAlso, the level of service received on Dachi (bar seat) is similar to that of sitting in the dining halls. Something to keep in mind, as thereā€™s less amounts of exclusivity tied to the experience vs. traditional sushi shops.

Comment: This was our second time at Sado and the food was phenomenal. We enjoyed isaan hamachi, steam buns, brussel sprouts, akami maki roll, and salmon yaki. The flavors and quality are unbelievable. Our custard dessert was perfect. I do have one complaint. The table next to us was a mere foot away (when entering we were along the left wall). I am a small human and when I got up I felt like I was an inconvenience and I was genuinely worried I was going to knock their drinks over. When youre packed in like sardines it cheapens the experience. That being said, Ill absolutely be back but will make a table request in advance.

Comment: The most anticipated restaurant opening in St. Louis is finally here! The newest restaurant from Chef Nick Bognar @bagnarleey has the freshest fish, the most satisfying flavor combinations, and the prettiest plating. Their menu is a mashup of Japanese and Thai cuisines- hot and cold tastings, seasonal tempura offerings, Robata Yaki dishes (grilled), nigiri, sashimi, and Makimono (sushi rolls). We ordered several nigiri from the Fish Market menu, Old Yokai Maki, Shibo Maki, tempura, seaweed salad, Japanese Pumpkin in a green curry sauce, and Chawanmushi, a seafood dashi custard with uni. For dessert we had to order the fried Twinkie with miso caramel. The drink menu by mixologist @kirawebster_ is also exceptional. I ordered the Kinboshi with a tom yum lollipop. A little sweet, a little spicy, but it paired beautifully with each dish. They blue have happy hour specials Tues-Thurs from 5-6 on drinks and small plates.Located at 5201 Shaw Ave (on the Hill in St. Louis City).Make a reservation! Walk-ins are welcome, but Im guessing it will be pretty impossible to get a seat for the first few months. Snag a seat at the sushi bar to watch the magic happen.

Comment: Atmosphere and service are 5/5. Iā€™ve never had sushi in St Louis, so wasnā€™t sure what to expect. The quality of the fish is definitely high. I wasnā€™t blown away by the flavoring, but the fish itself was definitely top notch, you could tell. I came during happy hour and enjoyed some the ā€œbitesā€ that were more reasonably priced and really enjoyed the spicy avocado and hamachi. Spicy tuna was good also! Get the Brussel sprouts and crispy rice veggie bowl as an appetizer.Staff is great!

Comment: Came here for an anniversary dinner. The food was great at the sushi bar but our waitress made many mistakes. We waited a while for our tempura order and had to ask many times for an update. We also ordered a maki and the waitress forgot about it entirely. We ended up waiting 30 minutes extra on our dinner time just for that small roll.We ordered some expensive nigiri and, noticing that they were $14 and $16, we asked for just one of each. The waitress misheard us and actually brought us two of each so we had to pay $30 extra. They wouldnt let us take the extra 2 pieces off the receipt since they thought we had made the mistake, so we paid and went to the entrance to just talk it out with the hostess/workers.We didnā€™t even want our money back; we just wanted them to acknowledge that there were issues with the service that could be improved and they became very offended. They flat out refused to accept that there could have been a mistake on their part. One of the chefs blatantly lied and said he saw the waitress double check that order with us many times (which just didnt happen?). He insisted that we were lying, but I dont see why we would have a reason to lie over 2 pieces of sushi. They must just care about the money then, because after we clarified for the 5th time that we werent trying to get our money back with this talk, they said okay, end of discussion then and kicked us out.The 20% automatic gratuity fee essentially means that there is no incentive for the service to be good so keep that in mind if you decide to come here. Also be prepared to be interrupted several times during your dinner by them asking if you want more food every 5 minutes and taking plates away all the time. Or just go to a different restaurant.I had wanted to give this place a great review originally, but they really need to fix their service. Acknowledging your mistake costs $0, but lost customers due to bad service costs a lot more.

Comment: We had been set up to believe that this place was absolutely incredible so maybe our expectations were too high. The food was great but my mind wasnt blown away, however our intro to our waitress was hard telling us we needed to get the menu we had off of the table next to us, we had sat up there because there was little room on the small table that we had. It wasnt even a polite request kind of like a cold statement before she took our drink order, which perhaps set the stage for our experience. At some point during the meal somebody else brought two pieces of sushi not even telling us what it was saying it was from our waitress who had hardly spoken to us, and whom it seemed we were constantly waiting to come back to the table. There was a table next to us of four people who she seemed really excited and friendly to serve. Im not sure what about the two of us wasnt pleasing to her but I didnt make a reservation with a $40 hold to be treated like I should have stayed outside begging for food. Perhaps we didnt order enough for her, we actually ordered a few appetizers and were planning to navigate through the menu afterwards but instead we had a few apps and just left. This is a case where I definitely would have left a smaller tip although I typically leave 20%, so having 20% added automatically to my bill was also very unwelcome and uncomfortable to ask to have it removed, so we did not. However definitely not what I would have expected and probably wont go back because of it, the combination of feeling unimportant or somehow Unworthy of service and then being forced to pay a tip that somebody else has chosen is definitely not a winner

We got there and when they opened and that is when our waitress told us about the cocktail hour specials. The specials we ordered, the poke bowls were very good. We also ordered a selection of the nigiri. From the regular menu we had the edamame, which was very flavorful, the mushroom steam bun was so good I canā€™t wait to have it again. The service was top notch, the presentation was beautiful. I cannot wait to go back and try different things on the menu.

Comment: The food was unbelievable ~ no wasabi or soy sauce needed here. The unique tastes of his creations are something you have to experience for yourself. The atmosphere is lovely and bubbly (loud) people were having fun and enjoying their evening. Our server Jeff was outstanding and very attentive to our needs/desires. Just a small note, it didnā€™t bother me but if you are trying to have a quiet evening this is not the place to go.

Comment: Food amazing! Service horrible! I was actually asked to move based on what the manager thought might be a concern for the table next to us. I moved and apologized to the table next to us. They had no idea that I was even sitting or encroaching on their space. After paying the bill, we asked to order one more beverage to celebrate our friends birthday. The manager refused to send someone to take our order until he was convinced that there wasnā€™t another reservation behind us. This was after a party of three had already spent $300 on dinner and was charged an automatic 20% gratuity. The food was good but not worth being treated like trash. I wondered why the server kept pushing more food on us not realizing she was being paid based on a percentage of order and not the service she provided. Super disappointed. Will never go again!

Comment: 5 stars all around! The Sado staff warmly greeted us and offered helpful suggestions on making the most of our visit. Dishes are meant to be shared and you should order 2-3 per person from different sections of the menu. That all being saidā€¦. do not skip the Brussels sprouts!! Also if considering wagyu, perhaps order the maki instead of the hot rock (the ponzu sauce is next level). Lastly make sure to order at least one benitoro nigiri ā€¦ chefā€™s kiss. The experience and quality justify every penny of the price. Bring a jacket as it is a little chilly inside but well worth it.Edit (2nd visit) - Everything was just as good if not better, namely the service. The Sado staff goes above and beyond to give every guest an incredible meal every step of the way. We were blown away and enjoyed all of the dishes ordered. Thank you Sado

Comment: Apart from our lovely server, nothing stood out to tout about. Unfortunately, theres nothing left of Nippontei in its evolution, or rather devolution, to Sado. If fall apart sushi rolls with the only notable flavors holding semblance to Indian and Mexican cuisine was the standard, this is a winner.

Comment: If you have been to Indo before in StL then youā€™re in for more of the same with a tastier flare in my own opinion. The Edamame was delicious with the crisp topping and my wife enjoyed her Wagyu Tartare with the Brussel Sprouts. We had a wide selection of both Sushi and Sashimi, and would definitely recommend trying different kinds from each selection. We came on my Birthday and our server was so wonderful. He let us try a secret off menu item as a present and as well as chose two different desserts for us. Harrison was his name and he was the absolute best server Iā€™ve had in Saint Louis so far and weā€™ve frequented many fine dining restaurants in StL on many occasions. E.g. Bulrush, Blood and Sand, etc. I will definitely recommend Sado just from the service and hospitality alone.

Comment: Absolutely delicious meal. The best sushi in STL by far. Everything we tried, I would totally get again. Highly recommend the Tiger Cry & Old Yokai Maki. Probably the best crab rangoons! Having the crab rangoons in the egg roll gives you so much more than the typical crab Rangoon that has all that extra fried stuff. Great cocktails! Our desert was very different with lots of different textures but great flavor combo. If you havenā€™t had a chance to try Sado, do it! šŸ£šŸ£šŸ£šŸ˜‹ā£

I canā€™t eat gluten, and she was really good about telling me how things could be modified, and there were only a few dishes that couldnā€™t be modified. The only reason I took away a star is because it is SO loud, and the area we were sitting had the tables very close together. Comment: Similar to another review, if you are a table less than 4 you will be rushed through your meal. I learned later from the manager that they only allot 90 minutes for a table of two. My wife and I were celebrating our birthdays and dropped $400 for the meal but didnā€™t even have time for dessert as we had hit the 90 minute limit even though I am not sure we could have ordered or eaten any faster. The food is excellent but I would suggest you allow your reserved diners of parties of two have at least two hours to enjoy their meal. We will not be back until the policy is changed.

Comment: My wife and I recently had dinner at Sado as part of her graduation from school. We had been to Nippon-Tei previously and had a good experience, and have frequented the owners other restaurants in the Grove which we enjoyed. Given the rave reviews online we had high expectations (named one of the best new restaurants in the area).TLDR: some good unique menu items, okay value ($$), do not get seated at the one table next to the Sushi Bar. Be aware that a 20% gratuity fee is charged automatically to your bill. There are other restaurants from the same chef/owner which are a cut above this one.Food: Overall 4/5 stars. The Tiger Cry roll was pretty awesome, sashimi tasted fresh. I do think the tempura and fried selections are mostly comparable to other restaurants in the vicinity (CWE). We also tried the matcha desert but found the fruit sauce too sweet for our liking. (subjective)Ambience: 3.5/5 stars. The restaurant overall looks nice inside (outside it is mono gray), and the scene is quite different than other places on the Hill which have traditional family seating a la Italian. I think something was lost in the transition from Nippon-Tei to Sado because I found Sado darker, and music was louder than I expected (American alternative music, some light rock) which interfered somewhat with the tasting of the Sushi. The restaurant lost a little of the charm Nippon-Tei had, perhaps to capture younger patrons and couples on dates.Service: 2.5/5. This probably was a deal breaker for me, but for a particular reason. There is one table right next to the sushi bar with counter-high stools within earshot of the sushi chefs. We heard the enthusiasm of the chefs and their explanations and recommendations of the menu. I learned that they were offering menu items to the patrons for free to try. Our experience felt a bit rushed as we did not have explanations of the items on the menu nor did we receive the same treatment as the other patrons. This stark contrast initially did not bother me but I saw that my wife was upset since she was right next to the chefs. There were actually two bar seats available at the sushi bar when we arrived, and we had a reservation, so the seating was deliberate in my mind. My recommendation to the owner Nick is to remove that high top table, since the difference in service is pretty appreciable.Overall, I probably would not return to this restaurant, which makes me sad because I might have returned to Nippon-Tei if it were still open. My recommendation is to go to Indo nearby which has been fabulous the past three times I went (its owned by the same chef).

Comment: Do not bring kids or groups larger than 4We were first ones in lines but they seated another group that clearly said they didnt have reservations before us.We came at 5 pm when they opened, had seats but they forced us to seat at the bar because they do not seat more than 4 people on tables. My daughter did hit her head at the bar counter, very chaotic, especially since the bar seating is right in from on the entry. Mandatory 20% tip, not happy if we are forces to sit at the bar. This is 20 mins after we seated at the bar and still plenty of open tables that is not allowed for us.I did get splashed by the bartender 3 times with their drinks. Ran out of water and didnt get any offers to refill.General overuse of teriyaki sauce.Octopus was a little fishy and hard to chew, and pork belly buns were messy to eat and very salty sauce that gets everywhere. Sushi was good. Hamachi jaw was a little dry, overuse of sauce. Salmon was good but overuse of sauce again.

Comment: My personal experience this last Saturday night was terrible. Our first piece of nigiri had a horrible fishy taste, the rice on all pieces of nigiri (we asked for omikase) was starchy and sticky and I couldnt get a weird vinegar and fishy taste out of my mouth the rest of the night. My tea was served less than lukewarm and was unsatisfying. Additionally, our last piece of nigiri as part of an omikase was o-toro and it was taking quite a long time to come out; out of sync with the rest of the meal. When it came out it was just a solid piece of plain lean tuna definitely not o-toro, Ive had it many times before ( including at nipon -tei) and that was not it. The dishes from indo were very poorly executed the worst being the the vegetable crispy rice which had way too much sauce at the bottom making it incredibly salty and overwhelmed the crispy rice. Additionally, the wasabi was a mushy grainy paste and even store bought sushi comes with better tasting wasabi, like they didnt even get the mixture right. Anyways, I loved Nipon-Tei and I love Indo, never had a bad meal at either but this one was not good at all.

Comment: Had dinner here not long ago and everything was top notch starting with our server who was a knowledge and friendly Asian young man named Kyan. We had some questions about the various fish offerings and he was great about explaining so we could easily understand and also offered some recommendations which we mostly ordered and everything was fabulous! We liked the way that they brought out a few things at a time rather than a large amount together so could savor before moving to the next course - All was super fresh and beautifully prepared. We had martinis to complement our meal and they were rather small compared to the average martini that Iā€™m used to, they werenā€™t served in a traditional martini glass which I think attributed to this since the glass was smaller, so my only suggestion would be larger martinis..;) This is definitely an upscale restaurant and was well executed with various staff working together to create a flowing dining experience. Also upscale pricing but can order as little or as much as want, we were prepared so didnā€™t skimp on ordering and no regrets. Look forward to returning.. *The minus one star for atmosphere is only because it was extremely cold inside, layered up during the summer!

Comment: I will never come back to this place again. First, the environment is too loud probably due to lack of sound absorption walls. This place is not a good fine dining place that deserves its price. Second, all dishes and drinks are unbelievably overpriced. The drinks are not really high quality kinds but more than twice of the market price. Even Tozai is listed as $40. I mean really? How much does Tozai company pay you? Food looks fancy, yet they also exceed their true market price too much, unless all of them are imported directly from certain area of Japan (People who knows Japanese food knows what I mean). Even considering their maintaining cost, the prices on the menu are too greedy. Third, the menu suggests a fixed 20% gratuity, which is fine if the service is good. However, we are left alone without even drink ordering for more than 15min. The server just doesnā€™t really pay attention. We didnā€™t eat and just left. Whoever has too much extra money and just want to pretend they appreciate fancy food could go. But hey, here is my suggestion: maybe itā€™s better to donate that money to charity. Or, you can save that several hundreds to try some really decent Japanese restaurants somewhere else, maybe in another city.

Comment: We made reservations a month in advance. We had a party of 3. The server was great but pushy. Know that when you come, they are trying to get you out ASAP. We ordered and the server kept taking our stuff asking if we were done with our plates that had food on them. It took away from the experience. We also arrived first and they set us at the smallest table in the middle of the room and the music was blaring so we had to yell if we wanted to converse. I personally enjoy a more intimate dining experience, a booth or table in the corner would have been nice since it was a family meal. The food was good. The crab Rangoon was mid. There wasnā€™t anything that stood out from the rest of the other Japanese restaurants. The Wagyu was good but it was doused in a salty sauce. I would expect that to be on the side since the dish was $75 per serving. The sushi was the best part. Again, the constant interruption from the wait staff, literally every 3 minutes took away from the experience which is why I gave this place a 3/5āļø. We had a $300 dinner that we didnā€™t get to really enjoy because they were trying to rush us out so they could fill it for the next reservation.

Comment: Great food and great service. Only thing that knocks it down for me is that it was just too loud / has terrible acoustics. We were with a group of 6 and it was nearly impossible to have a conversation across the table. All in all - I prefer Indo, but Sado is great.

Comment: Incredible Japanese faire in the heart of the Midwest that could rival high end west coast sushi. The menu is expansive and completely a la carte which can be overwhelming but you cannot go wrong. If you have any questions the amazing waitstaff is insightful and very polite. Plates will come out with a few pieces at a time preventing the table from becoming crowded and allowing you to enjoy your meal at a nice pace. As someone who eats steak twice a week I have to warn you not to sleep on the vegetarian roll. It made me a believer. Everything we had was delicious and thoughtful aside from the wagyu nigiri. Not sure how it was seared (asked but left before I could get an answer), but it was bitter and had a faint chemical taste. I believe we may have just been unlucky because everything else was phenomenal.

Comment: My wife and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. I made reservations weeks in advance to make sure we had seating. When we got there, I found I out screwed up the reservations. Front of house was so helpful and accommodating despite my mistake. All wait staff was courteous, kind, and attentive. The food was outstanding. We tried a variety of nigiri and sashimi - all were delicious, with the yellowfin tuna taking the win for our favorite of the night. I doubt you could go wrong with any choice. We each had a cocktail as well. Needless to say, we will be back.

Comment: Cool dining experience! Its fine-dining, yet casual. Theres no fancy dress code, the music is loud, and the atmosphere is energetic. The staff, who are very knowledgeable of the menu and food, work together to ensure swift and timely delivery of each ordered item. Absolutely worth checking this place out!

Comment: Delicious! Went for a reservation at the sushi bar at 9, they were running behind schedule on turning over seats - but they were extremely accommodating and graciously gave us some items on the house.Fantastic ambiance, great place for a girls night, a date, or a dinner with an old friend. Wish I could try everything on the menu!

Comment: WOW WOW WOWI cant say enough good things about Sado. Weve been so excited to come as Indo STL is probably our favorite restaurant in St Louis. We had high expectations and they were met and surpassed. This has to be some of the best food weve ever had. The flavor combinations were incredible and some of the ingredients we had never had before. I loved everything.Definitely worth trying the cold tastings. The hamachi and black tea kapachi were mind blowing. The Nigri, sashimi and sushi were incredible as well. The cocktails and dessert were the only parts that I personally thought were a bit of a miss. The cocktails were very strong, and only one flavor profile, I thought maybe they could be a bit more balanced. The dessert options were fried twinkie and like rice in milk (sorry, please correct me, I forgot exactly). But I think after such wonderful fresh food (and how much we ate) we were in the mood for something lighter and fresher in line with the offerings of the rest of the menu.Regardless, one of the best experiences weve had in St Louis and would recommend to anyone.I have been reading the other reviews and have to say, customers should understand what type of restaurant theyre coming to and be more thoughtful to the staff. Take the bad reviews with a grain of salt and use common sense. Dont show up without a reservation and then rock up to the bar to ask for a drink in one of the most seeked out restaurants of the moment. Dont show up late. Dont bring your kids. Understand that the space and lighting is designed so for a reason. If you dont like raw fish, re-think where youre going. It makes me so mad people are so thoughtless and then leave bad reviews based on their own behavior. We had a wonderful time here and wish Sado lots of success.

Comment: After dining at both iNDO and Ramen Tei, there was no doubt Sado would be top-notch. The service staff is perfectly attentive without overwhelming. The dishes are cooked and plated to perfection, the drinks wonderfully crafted.Get a reservation or get on the walk in list via Tock, or youll be waiting a long time. Place was packed by 6pm. Also, parking sucks on The Hill... there is no parking lot for this business. Be prepared to walk or valet.

Comment: Food was fantastic, but I have to knock down the star number due to the experience. When you spend $100+ per person on dinner, I find it very strange to be kicked out of your table. Candidly, I think this has only happened once or twice in my entire life and it was positioned as a gentle suggestion (and of course, I understand that a restaurant is a business). At Sado, we had two separate people come by and blatantly ask us to get up from our table while we still had full drinks. We were also seated 25 minutes late.

Comment: Sado provided a memorable dinner because of its tasty food and excellent service. Service: our server Ellie was outstanding. She patiently explained the menu to us and provided some spot on recommendations.Cocktails: the dirty martini I ordered was one of the best I can recall. I ordered it twice. Bravo to the creator the the small bit mighty cocktail menu.Food: everything we had was excellent. The wagyu beef tartare and the crab Rangoon were spot on. Donā€™t sleep on the veggie options for nigiri, the eggplant version was outstanding and I personally preferred it to the wagyu nigiri.Overall: this is an excellent addition to The Hill. Iā€™m looking forward to going back.

Comment: Absolutely incredible experience. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the service was top notch. The food was unbelievable. We started with the black tea kanpachi and then traveled all over the menu. Weā€™re excited to come back and try more new things. Sado is a must try if you havenā€™t yet.

Comment: Made a reservation and sat at the sushi bar. It was great watching the chefs make everything. They were talkative and happy to answer questions and give recommendations. Food was amazing. Entire staff was friendly and we will definitely be back. Give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes to find parking just like every other restaurant on the hill. $8 valet if you donā€™t want to bother.

Comment: We came here for our anniversary celebration. It was hard to find parking on the hill and the restaurant has no sign outside. I have no complains with food, it was delicious. I just wish that their google has the hours and menu listed, we were there too early because I didnt saw the hours on their google listing. So I checked the website and its poorly designed the font color makes it hard to read and some tabs are not fully functional. The restaurant is very dim, (we were at the corner next to the entrance) it was hard to read the menu so it wouldve been nice read it online ahead of time. Seats are too close to each other so we felt that we have no privacy with our conversations and not enough space for servers between tables. My husband and I were so uncomfortable and didnt enjoy the experience.

Comment: Ive been waiting months for Sado to open and it did NOT disappoint. The food and drinks are beautiful, creative and obviously delicious. The chef has really created dishes that let the top-notch ingredients shine. We sat at the sushi bar and all the chefs would answer and questions, explain the food or just have a friendly discussion. It was a perfect dining experience.

Comment: As long time customers at Nippon Tei, we eagerly awaited Sados opening. The restaurant is much larger than Nippon Tei or Indo and with crowds coming to check one of the newest places in town, it got quite loud. We found our party of six often yelling to be heard across the table but I imagine that things will hopefully quiet down in the next few months. It was wonderful to see some familiar rolls from Nippon Tei, such as the negi-hama and negi-tuna as well as our absolute favorite, the hamachi crunch. New dishes that we tried were also incredibly well done, we were huge fans of the wagyu tartare, tempura acorn squash, vegetarian crispy rice and the chili oil edamame.Of course, you cannot come here without trying some nigiri as well... And we were not disappointed. We did find the rice on the rolls to be a bit loose but that became pretty pronounced with some of the nigiri falling apart as it was being picked up by chopsticks. (FYI I am of Asian descent and have been using chopsticks since I was 5, so it was not my technique). I imagine this loose rice is part of the growing pains of a new restaurant and relentless crowds. The fish was amazing and well prepared. Having had a loooot of the masu from Nippon Tei, did not prepare me for how flavorful and tender it was here. Our favorites for the night were the kanpachi, kinmadai, masu, and of course the aji (horse mackerel).Parking is a bit tricky as the hill is already busy with other restaurants, but if youre willing to take a short walk we were able to find a spot within a 5-10 minute walk, otherwise they do have a valet.

Comment: Make sure if you want to try this place out, you make reservations. My friend and I decided last minute to try the restaurant out because I had read about it on line. When we arrived, we were informed that there would be a wait. I asked about seating at the bar because most places it is open seating. Let me tell you the host was so condescending that it was uncomfortable. There is no waiting area and he acted alarmed that I was going to approach the bar to get a glass of wine. He then informed us it was a 2 hour wait. After driving around forever trying to find a place to park and having much anticipation of trying Sado we just left. I rarely leave a bad review anywhere but I realize this place is new and hope they work on their customer service. I am sure the food will be amazing

Comment: My friends and I work in the neighborhood and we waited for this restaurant to open for a while. It was totally worth the wait!!We went here the other night. I love the atmosphere and aesthetic. The service was wonderful, I felt like a VIP! šŸ¤£I thought the food was really yummy. I had an herbal tea as well (loved it). We tried/shared our dishes amongst each other. I normally dont eat raw sushi...but Sado will be my go-to! The photo I included is one of the rolls we tried and it was delicious and the fish tasted incredibly fresh. The flavors of the fishes were well-balanced, not too salty at all. Prices are on the higher end and its worth every penny. I highly recommend Sado for special occasions!

Comment: We had dinner at 5 pm with this new location. My wife came first with 2 kids because I got off work at 5. She came in 15 mins late because she did not familiar with the location, no parking spots in front of the restaurant, and took time with kids. we still got the table, but after ordering the problem began. The waitress told my wife that we only have 1hr 15 mins to eat because we were late. I came in at 5:45pm and food was already out on the table, my wife told me that our waitress just came and asked her where I was, and we had 1 hr. left to eat and wondered that we had enough time to finish our dinner. I was so shocked. After got 1 piece of sashimi, this rude waitress came to our table for 3rd time and told us we got 45 mins to finish our diner and we needed to pack up any food. My wife was so angry and asked her why you kept telling us how much time left, she explained that the restaurant was full, they had another appointment at 7 bla bla. I asked to talk to the manager. The manager said sorry to us and offered 50% off on our bill. I told her that we did not feel good to finish our dinner and wanted to box up everything. I really did not want to give any tip to this waitress but the 20% tip already charged on our bill. They need to train their servers more, because with 20% gratuity included on bill, we never expect the situation like this. We will skip Sado for a while, but were gonna come back and hope they will improve their service.Food: 5* alwaysService: 1* this timeAtmosphere: 3* tables close to each other, no private, loud music

Comment: Been waiting for Sado to open for what feels like forever now, and I can definitely say it was worth the wait! If you Like Chef Nickā€™s Indo, you will LOVE this new restaurant of his! Innovative food and drinks galore. For the sushi lovers they have high quality nigiri and unique maki rolls unlike any other Japanese restaurant. For those that like to try new things I would recommend the chawanmushi (umami egg custard) and the wagyu tartare. On the drinks side I got their soju cocktail, and it was light, sweet, and refreshing (and had a little šŸŒø ice cube). All in all, Sado is definitely a place to add to your STL restaurant bucket list and Iā€™ll for sure be back!
