Comment: This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. Ive been coming here for a year to pick up takeout and to eat in. The dish is flavorful and incredibly excellent. Every time, the meal is served really quickly. Excellent cuisine; the entire menu is worth sampling, but the curry and pad thai are my personal favorites. Good hospitality is shown. Friendly staff provides excellent client service. Love getting takeout or a quick bite here. Unquestionably a fantastic spot for Thai food.Update: there new location is awesome, lots more room but still the same friendly staff and amazing food

Comment: We have been dining at Zen for over 20 years. Highly recommend. Im an old Chef and I dabble in Asian Cuisine. It was nice to run into the owner at Global Foods, when picking up a few things to cook dinner. Have to say that Ive had some of the spicest dishes there, of course at my request. I always recommend Zen to my friends.

Comment: UPDATE:Zen just moved to a different location and omg the vibes of the new place is amazing. Modern decor and everything else definitely feels more upscale. The food is still solid and they added more drink options so that was a pleasant surprise. I will definitely be coming back to dine in more often!Compared to the other Thai restaurants in St. Louis Zen is definitely one of the best. The food is great and best of all the price is really inexpensive. The portions is good and the food comes out relatively quickly. However, when it gets busy its very clear the kitchen gets backed up making the food come out dramatically slower than usual. The service is usually good here. Everyone is nice and cheerful. I would definitely recommend Zen.

Comment: Chicken was too tough. $3 for 4 tough and tiny shrimp added to a dish. Sushi was okay but nothing special. Both pad thai and green curry were EXCESSIVELY sweet. Too sweet. Rice was cooked to mush. Passable in a pinch but Id never go out of my way to eat there again. Further, an older man who was a regular complained his dish was too tough and I overheard another couple explain their order was wrong. During the meal I asked for salt and was brought a spice rack with no salt. Just a lackluster experience. Maybe I caught them on an off night with new cooks. Your mileage may vary.

Comment: Honestly kind of disappointed. Lived in Seattle for ten years so lived next to a lot of great Thai restaurants. I was excited to try ZEN based on all the great reviews but it’s been a let down the two times I’ve been.I’m no stranger to spice but it seems like their scale is way off. I had a 3/5 yellow curry that I could barely even eat because it was so spicy. The second time I got a 2/5 and it’s the same story. On top of that i don’t think the yellow curry has enough flavor for me. It’s all heat but not enough flavor.My wife got the drunken noodles (pad kee mao) but they came with the basic ramen noodles (??) instead of the wide rice noodles which I have never seen before. On top of that her spice level was also way off.Maybe we just got the wrong dishes but very disappointing.

Comment: Me and a friend went there the other day, food was really good but the issue is, my friend has sensitive teeth and he ordered his tea without ice, they charged him .45 cents extra on his glass of tea.When I asked about the extra charge they said it was because of no ice wanted in his tea. My drink was filled to the top with ice and hardly no drink so I complained to the manager about charging more for tea with no ice and he said “well that’s how it is”We will not be going back there ever, no decent restaurant is going to make you pay more for tea and soda just because you don’t want ice.

And I’ve had a lot of curry’s. I also got an order of crab rangoon, also delicious and the dipping sauce that comes with it was sweet and tasty. With my order I also received miso soup and two spring rolls (I had no clue that came with my curry order ), but happy it did because those two items were also delicious!!! The turn into the lot was a bit nail biting as we were facing up a blind Hill to make a left at a blinking arrow to cross two lanes of busy traffic. (I strongly suggest treating yourself to a meal here after you have made a blood or plasma donation across the parking lot at the American Red Cross.) Comment: If I could rate more than five stars I would. This is my favorite place to eat in the world. Friendly people and the best tasting food I have ever eaten. I am not a Thai food expert, but whenever I have people familiar with thai food from around this country eat here they are always blown away. I have not had a lot from the Japanese menu but what little I have had was delicious. The sushi I have only had a couple of times and it was not super memorable. Yellow Thai curry and the drunken noodles are phenomenal. The spring rolls are a great starter. I have eaten here countless times, starting as a kid not long after they opened, and never once had a bad experience. The atmosphere when I dine in is very comfortable and the service is super friendly.

Comment: Yesterday we had lunch at Z E N Thai & Japanese Cuisine in Crestwood. It’s a clean, friendly, modest, out of the way place. The food was pretty good and covers the range from Omni to vegetarian to vegan.Spicy… the food also covers ‘spicy’ from mild to ‘watering eyes’. Though I personally stick to medium heat, l could tell by my meal that the next three levels up would probably require lots more napkins and something better than the jasmine tea we had.In all, great meal. This week I ordered from Zen Thai.I ordered the Philadelphia Roll, Zen Roll, and vegetable tempura for Thursday night. On Friday night I reheated salmon katsu, a bit of rice, a side of Panang curry sauce, steamed veggies, and Tom Kha soup with tofu. Both meals were delicious. Undoubtedly, though, the best part was the incredibly soft, almost buttery salmon in the Philadelphia Roll. The quality was astounding, especially considering the very reasonable price!I wish Id thought to get pictures of the salmon katsu meal, but was reheating things while working. I reheated the salmon katsu in the oven and microwaved the rest. That katsu sauce is phenomenal!

They include the thai fresh spring rolls, the chicken curry puffs, the fried potstickers, and I get the panang curry with chicken and my wife gets the mussaman curry with tofu. We have never had an issue eating there until the most recent time. We ordered pickup like we always do, and our order was ready when we got there, I wonder now how long it was ready before we got it. Shortly after getting home I noticed the currys had become separated. I didnt think anything of it at the time, I just shook them up and proceeded like usual. My wife and I both had several trips out of bed that night. Still giving four stars because out of more than 6 years of eating there this was our only negative experience.

Comment: This was our second time. Our first time we all had drunken noodles and it was very tasty but we all way over estimated our spice tolerance. So this time we went back and all had level 1s and 0s. I think the level 1 this time was as spicy and last times level 3. We joking asked the waitress if those were level 3s and she told us that we could get a level 0 next time and they will bring the spice on the side and add what we wanted. She was very helpful and courteous. The fried sushi rolls were great as well . I will definitely change from 4 stars to 5 if the level 0 and add your own spice thing works out next time.

In my experience you get Asian restaurants that are either authentic or cater to the Americanized taste and make everything too sweet or too salty. This is a place that makes everything too sweet. Yes I know I ordered the pad see eww but I would like to taste the soy sauce not just sugar! What can you say when the fried rice is sweet? Did really like the dessert either since they only gave you two pieces of fried banana when I usually get 4 for that price. They also used mango ice cream but it wasnt good mango ice cream it was the kind you buy on a budget that you can tell was artificially flavored. Get to searching and came across this little hidden gem.Quaint little place with modern decor an a traditional touch of ancient relics on the walls.Open kitchen format. I could view who was back there and with a Cambodian wife I know the older generations hold the most delicious recipes. I was excited.Beef Jerky was amazing. Slight dip into some Sriracha and crisp lettuce hit right!Edamame came extra salty which I prefer.Crying Tiger was real good with the sauce.Lobster sushi roll was nicely done.Lobster drunken noodles looked amazing but before I could grab a bite my better half covered it in crushed red pepper and thats not my cup of tea.The service was very comforting and super respectful with a courteous bow of respect everytime something was dropped off. Comment: I ordered Spicy Fried Rice and Sticky Rice with Fresh Mango as dessert from Zen today through DoorDash and I’m very disappointed with the dessert. The sticky rice itself looked old and like it was just warmed up over and over again and the biggest disappointment was the mango itself the was completely tasteless (plastic tasted better) and looked like it was sitting outside unpeeled for awhile. The mango is really over-ripen (starting to rot?) with brown parts on several of them (you can see it in the photos.The only reason I’m giving this 2 star is because fried rice was fine.

Comment: I was excited to try this place. I saw it on a list of the best thai places in St. Louis. The service was the highlight. The staff was friendly, welcoming and attentive. We were served immediately. The clearly didnt have a thats my table and worked together as a team which sounds problematic but they rocked it. They were REALLY good! The food was ok. We tried the veggie egg rolls, veggie tempura and I had the stir-fry cashew. The tempura was the best but the sauce left a little to be desired. The egg rolls were average at best. The stir-fry didnt taste like fresh veggies (green beans, carrots, onion, cabbage) and they were kinda sad looking. If we go back Ill try something else.

Comment: SO GOOD. Ive had a few meals here, all on the thai side of things and they are very good. The tom yum soup was very yummy, not a clear broth (which i know isnt the norm) which is my favorite, but i dont think that should take anything away from it. Service is nice, they are attentive.

Comment: I ordered their signature Duck Pineapple Curry, and I will definitely be back to eat there again. The food was absolutely delicious! I was dining with some vegetarian friends who love going there because they have a large variety of vegetarian options. Prices were very reasonable, and the ingredients were fresh and of good quality. My only complaint was that service was a tad slow, but I believe this was because the restaurant filled up shortly after our arrival.

Comment: A quaint little restaurant, tucked into a non-descript strip mall. The food was above average, and they did have a wide variety of options on the menu. The service was EXCELLENT, the servers worked as a team, and we were never left wanting. The three of us who went each got a different soup, all of which were delicious. All our entrees were great as well. We ordered the drunken noodles with chicken, unagi don (japanese bbq eel), and pineapple curry duck. Ive lived in the area for many years, but just went here for the first time. I wish I would have discovered it earlier. Either way, we will definitely be visiting again!

Comment: Really good Thai. The Drunken Noodles were tasty. I went with level 5 spice and it was just enough heat without going overboard. I like spicy food though.We were here the night before Thanksgiving and it was fairly crowded. The reason I took a star away is because they just didnt handle it well. We waited up front for maybe 5-10 minutes with a few other groups before anyone even asked how many were in each party. Then they didnt come back again for another 5-10 minutes. The service didnt get much better once we finally did get a table. Maybe just a bad night.

Comment: Great customer service. The Thai food is good. However the sushi is not. We ordered 4 rolls and Thai entrees for 4 people. The the sushi rolls did not look appetizing. We eat one it was ok. The other 3 had bad fish in them. They smelled bad and tasted worse. When we told our waitress, whom I believe was the owner that the rolls had bad fish. Her comment was oh I’m sorry. Then we got the bill and she charged us for the 3 rolls which all had just one piece eaten from each.

Comment: I go at least once per pay period and sometimes more. Salmon katsu, salmon curry, spicy fried rice, spicy basil, and vegetarian egg roll, are incredible. I havent even tried a 1/4 of the menu but everything I have tried has been delicious. If u get the egg rolls I highly recommend you try the plum sauce with them. its unbelievably good.

Comment: This place has good lunch specials. The food is ok, but just ok. I had the shrimp tempura roll and the Philadelphia roll, and my friend had the yellow curry with chicken. Im not a sushi snob by any means; however, a couple pieces of the shrimp tasted bad. Like BAD. And I saw like milky white discharge under one piece of salmon that had me freaked put. I just stopped with three pieces left.So that was the food. Not impressed with service either. The lady who was at the counter barely acknowledged me when I said I had a to-go order and left I assume to make it (though I showed up exactly 15 minutes from placing it as directed) and then when I asked to pay with 2 different cards, she said yes. So when I told her how much to charge the first card, she snapped just tell me which order. She snatched the receipts off the printer along with my cards and threw them onto the counter and walked off.She may have been having a bad day, and maybe they were busy making other to go orders. But this was my first experience and I doubt I shall return.

Comment: We stopped in at Zen for dinner on Saturday at about 6:30 pm. The restaurant is fairly small and hidden away in a strip mall. There were only 3 tables of customers when we arrived. We were seated in the back where an old western was playing on a tv. Our server was nice, but seemed overwhelmed trying to keep up with the number of customers.We ordered the Drunken Noodles (spicy level 3). The dish was tasty and the spice level was nice. I could have done without the pickled baby corn, but it was not a huge distraction. My biggest issue was the noodles. Im pretty sure we were served the noodles from a packet of instant Ramen. They were thin, curled, and lacked any kind of flavor.The Ramen issue aside, the rest of the meal was enjoyable, and we will be back in the future.

Comment: Absolutely terrible. Ordered three different sushi rolls, and they were by far the worst sushi Ive had in St. Louis. Ive had better sushi eating at a buffet. I asked the waitress if I could substitute the leftovers for something else since it was so bad, but they declined and were not polite about it, stating that the sushi always tasted like that. Horrible. The rice was overly-sour and not fresh, and the seaweed tasted of low quality. The texture of the sushi tasted like it had been left out for a while and overall it was not fresh at all. Buffet sushi would have been fresher. Bad service, bad food. Would not go here again.
